Community Guidelines
At jovoto, we believe in the power of community. You take part in making this place great. Apart from the “hard currency” of Karma-Points you receive for positive contributions, we also endorse a Community-spirited behavior, which adheres to these simple guidelines.
1. R*E*S*P*E*C*T
Make sure your demeanor and your comments are objective and fair. Respect the efforts of those making this community possible. Mutual respect is the first priority.
2. Participation
The more people actively participate on our platform, the closer we get to realizing the jovoto vision. Don’t just contribute your own ideas, but also comment and rate other members’ ideas! And don’t forget: the more (good) ideas you upload, the more the other community members will value your opinion.
3. Commentiquette
While posting comments, please keep in mind the following: comments are supposed to help other community members improve their ideas. To do so, they should include a professional assessment, from which the user can benefit. Comments are supposed to deal with the idea only. If you want to discuss other topics, send the user a private message, or start a discussion at the Support Center.
4. Votiquette
Be a sportsman and stay objective when rating ideas. Keep in mind that it’s the idea that counts, not about fully-realized design! With jovoto you have the rare opportunity to follow the whole development process of an idea. This is a concept that takes some time to get used to. It goes without saying that coercing others to vote for your ideas and bashing other users’ ideas is totally inappropriate. Unfair voting behavior won’t go unnoticed, since we analyze all ratings and take the liberty of neutralizing them in extreme cases.
5. Copyright is your friend
Mutual inspiration is an essential part of the jovoto idea. But even in this case one rule must never be forgotten: respect the fine line between inspiration and imitation. And do so in both directions: of course plagiarism is to be avoided, but at the same time you shouldn’t accuse anyone if you’re not absolutely sure that it’s justified.
6. Updating ideas and submitting new ideas
If you want to develop an idea further, just add all updates to the material you already uploaded, rather than submitting a new idea. If you come up with a whole new idea: you are very welcome to submit up to three ideas per contest, unless the briefing states otherwise.
7. Don’t spam
You may want to write a private message to another community member to discuss a certain idea or topic, to ask for help or inquire about a specific technique used. However, consider that nobody likes to be spamed! Don’t write sidemails to other community members to ask for their rating.
8. Never give up
Don’t throw in the towel just because your idea is not in the Top Ten! Work on it and try to improve it. The community’s feedback should help you make improvements.
9. If it’s really necessary
Let us know if you notice any kind of misuse. We want all jovoto contests to be fair, but we can’t have our eyes everywhere. Therefore you will find a “Report misuse” button (an exclamation mark in a triangle) on the page of every idea. Use it only in these extreme cases:
- If the criticism in a comment is not objective or is personal
- If someone has been offended or attacked in a private message
- If stolen content has been used
- If you suspect rating manipulation
Attention: if anyone intends to tamper with the contest by submitting ideas without any content or with inappropriate content, jovoto reserves its right to remove these ideas.
10. Help to shape jovoto
We are glad to receive feedback from you. Really. Please get in touch with us via the suppot center whenever you want to suggest improvements or report errors. You also have the following options for getting in touch with us:
- Private messages (for personal matters)
- The “Contact contest guide” feature (on every briefing page, for contest-related suggestions and questions)
- The “comment” feature in the briefing (if you have briefing-related suggestions or questions that could be of interest to other community members)
11. jovoto team members
A short note concerning our presence on the platform: the profiles of all jovoto staff members are highlighted by a special frame. We do not submit ideas ourselves, but we comment and rate your ideas in order to provide you with feedback and incite or moderate discussions. It’s also important to know that our ratings are visible but don’t count in the voting! Their purpose is to give you hints, but the community members are the ones who decide which idea wins.
12. In a quiet moment…
…you should carefully re-read our Terms of Use and browse the FAQs Section of our support center, which should provide you with everything you need to know.
