Würzburg contest closes and contest winners!

Another contest successfully closed yesterday, with 90 submissions for a 360° campaign for the city of Würzburg. A brief look at the 3 top-rated contest winners:

1. Hellotommy’s World Wide Würzburg

Hellotommy produced an astonishingly beautiful and complete concept for Würzburg, which surely deserved this top rank. The logo and claim World Wide Würzburg hit the bull’s eye:

it’s smart, international yet toungue-in-cheek and not overly boisterous. The campaign focuses on playing with the characteristic shape of the ‘W’, choosing words starting with that letter to describe Würzburg in an unusual way. (In this example: ‘warm’, Würzburg’s especially warm mean temperature is what makes it such a high quality wine region).

2. Kaptn’s Würz.B.urg – eine beispiehlhafte Region

Kaptn’s superb eye spotted the ‘z.B.’ in Würzburg: the German abbreviated form of zum Beispiel, meaning ‘for example’. This clever word/image symbol becomes a meaningful logo, paired with the claim ‘eine Beispielhafte Region’ (an exemplary region). In his campaign, Kaptn finds images for Würzburg’s outstanding achievements (such as the invention of the ‘Bocksbeutel), implying Würzburg’s role as a positive, ‘exemplary’ motor for the region.

3. squalidsketch’s Würzburg vielseitig

Squalidsketch’s very poetic visualisaiton of Würzburg and his pointing out of individual aspects of the town got him to the top ranks easily. When he tried to submit further updates to this idea, he discovered he had missed the deadline by three hours. Nevertheless, his original approach proved to hold enough potential and was reckognized as such by the community. The updates to Squalidsketch’s ideas can be seen here on our blog but were not part of the official contest.
