Contest Winners – Opendi
our contest for the open directory, or Stadtbranchenbuch for the German market, ended last week. After a hot rating phase in which a lot of movement still took place, the final winners have been announced. As usual, I’m going do review the top three ideas, looking at what makes them special and in which way they have particularly succeeded in approaching the task.
1. thegoodad’s Wenn dir was fehlt.

thegoodad’s idea plays with strong visuals: well-known company logos are re-interpreted so that it’s obvious that something is ‘missing’…
… In this example, the four-rings-logo of the car manufacturer Audi lacks one of its rings, which leads thegoodad to ask the question: ‘looking for a juweler?’ No doubt this is a funny, smart and eye-catching idea, playing on expectations and double meanings. Logos are so deeply rooted in our visual memory and our orientation in the world, it’s great fun to disrupt and recontextualize them. Opendi would need to be very brave to realize this campaign (and perhaps need a good lawyer, too?) but it would surely generate attention! Check out the other motives, too! The goodad has also written about this on his blog, the Good Ad.
2. haikot’s Finden Sie die Besten. Nicht die Erstbesten.

I really enjoyed haikot’s funny and visually interesting idea. He created a series of images with contradictory messages: He targets professional service providers, such as a marriage counselor, a refurbisher or a dog grooming saloon and suggest that these individuals may not be as fit for the job as they claim! Opendi provides the solution: Don’t just go for the easiest/fastest option, but find just the right person. I think the tonality and humor of this idea hit the right spot. Good job haikot! Do have a look at the other motifs…
3. Buddycasino’s Wir finden alles gut.

buddycasino’s humor may not suit everyone – but the community (and also the client, I can tell you) enjoyed this one. Searching can be a nuisance, who knows how much time of our lives we waste looking for… well, um, things. Opendi is positioned as the expert in finding the right service for (almost) all your needs. More motifs here!
And these are all winning ideas:
1. thegoodad’s Wenn dir was fehlt.
2. haikot’s Finden Sie die Besten. Nicht die Erstbesten.
3. Buddycasino’s Wir finden alles gut.
4. idea_generation’s absolut nützlich
5. barbarossa’s Kennen Sie den?
6. Paulat’s Warum suchen, wenn’s so einfach geht.
Congratulations to all and thanks for your participation!

I like the first idea better. Some logos are indeed so powerful that the name can be easily left out. Even the logo can be cut and still we recognize it.
