Betacup – Congrats to all Winners and a Look Ahead
Karma wins!
What a great choice and good ending to the betaucp challenge - at yesterday’s award ceremony, the Jury picked their favorite out of 430 submissions, and it was the —- KARMA CUP! An amazing Award of $ 10 000 went to the authors of this idea, and what’s best is that Strabucks announced real interest in implementing the concept at their stores. So, let’s see!

In this wonderful concept by Mira Lynn and her team, every tenth person receives a freebie if they bring their own mug. The concept is super simple to implement, creates a sense of community and is effective in solving the problem by positively encouraing people to bring their own mugs. Good choice"
Shortlisted and given honorable mentions were three more concepts. I am especially happy how these results truly represent jovoto as a global community:
1. betacup and betacup campaign - by JeskoStoetzer, in cooperation with Squalidsketch, from Germany
2. champion cup – by raphdamico from Chicago, USA
3. band of honour - by fisherwest, from Brisbane, Australia
More than 400 people watched the live stream of the Award Ceremony at 3pm EST – thanks so much for that! It was overwhelming!
But let’s not forget the Community Prize winners who fought hard and went through a lot in the last stretches of the contest. Not everyone can win, and as usual it was an extremely close call. We want to congratulate all who submitted an idea, refined it, supported the community by rating and commenting… but in the end, these here made it to the Communities Top 5:
Place 4: the Neutral Resource and Place 5: Networked Loyalty

Thanks to our partners:
So, after giving credits to the winners and the community, we do indeed have to say a large thank you to our friends and all partners of the betacup initiative, starbucks, core77, denuo, and good day monsters who all did their share to whoop this contest and made it such a huge success!
Press coverage:
A look ahead:
For jovoto, the betacup award ceremony ended in a tiny office warming party, (did anyone take pictures? ummm….) and with the feeling of having learned a lot from this experience. I want to once again point to the very fruitful discussion at our forum about improvements to our Public Contest system. First changes will be implemented as we move towards our next highly anticipated contest about Privacy and Civil Rights. We look forward to seeing more of your creative talent!

Congrats to the winners – the Beta Cup was a blast! It was a lot of work but and an experience that I will not soon forget. Looking to see more of your ideas comments and whatnot in the community.

I buy a tall mild once a day at starbucks. It costs me less than $2. The chance of getting a free coffee if I’m the 10th person to use a personal mug is not an incentive for me to clean and carry one.

The winning idea is a chalkboard? That right there is a case against crowdsourcing. Unsubscribed.
So Starbucks (after cup sales are done) will plan to lose 10% sales for the duration, as well as the workload of an employee who will need to continually update the chalkboard every second? There’s no chance all the self-entitled Escalade owners will fill in their own x’s every morning (unless they’re 10th in line). Also, every tenth person will buy the $5 frappalapa milkshake drink, while the other 9 people in line buy cheap coffee…
This plan means:
1. Starbucks loses money
2. People need to wash their cups, in hopes of being that “1 in 10″.
I’d give it about a month.

Hi Dan,
the “Karma Cup” is the winner of the Professional Jury Price – have a look at the jury here: http://www.thebetacup.com/team/
The ideas with the red batches saying “1″, “2″ etc are the community winners.
Best
