jovotans worldwide – roygarcia

Tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from, what are you doing?

Well, hi jovoto!  Greetings from Guatemala a little and beautiful country, in Central America, my real name are Reynaldo García I’m a 33 years old architect, designer and amateur musician. By now I work as an assistant in a little studio, and of course I have a second job as a freelance designer with all kind of designs.

Is there any special story behind your username?

My nickname is not a sophisticated thing actually…my father’s name is Reynaldo García too, so my family and my friends call me Roy because it is shorter.

When designing where do you get your inspiration from?

The inspiration comes from many things, sci-fi stories, comic books, electric guitars, places, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, blues, hard rock, etc.  Put that weird, funny and very complicated mix together, and that’s it! Hehehe… and I guess that’s why, my designs are very simple… I mean a lot! Because I want the people have fun and comfort with my ideas, or at least I tried to do in that way. I can’t make a design without a problem or a need to solve, it’s a basic thing to me.

How would you describe the creative scene in your hometown or where you live now?

The creative scene in Guatemala is very different to the rest of the world, basically because a lot of people with great thoughts don’t have the opportunity to show their ideas; basically I think the problem is the corruption on all the levels. But certainly the Guatemalans we are very clever people so we always find the way to express ourselves, not only with designs, also with music and all kinds of arts, so we have a lot of brilliant people and maybe in the future we can hear more about them in the international scenario, by now the real scene is underground, Guatemala is a small place, but very friendly.

How did you find out about jovoto?

I found Jovoto because I didn’t have a job, I have a lot of bills to pay, a lot of ideas…but no job. So, I saw a link somewhere in the internet and one thing came to another. Now I have a job, but I stay on jovoto, because I really enjoy the projects, is an opportunity to me to do something different of my the routine. It is like a fun job, I meet nice people, and I improve my work a lot.

And what are your favorite types of jobs?

Well I really enjoy doing designs of all kind, but furniture, objects and architectural things are my favorite, since I was a child, the way to solve or create useful shapes are fascinating to me. The thing is I really love being useful, not just show an object without soul, in my criteria my work is for the people and if I can make a person happy with that…I’m happy to.

Anything you want to share with the jovoto community?

Being part of this community is exciting, the people here are truly talented, and that’s a challenge for me, thanks community!  Well that’s me jovotians.  Thanks to all your comments about my work. Greetings!
