The following screenshots show the major changes. The most important change is the search feature – we hope that you like it as much as we do Please give us feedback, so that we know that we are developing stuff you need that makes you happy!

1. Search

Search for Members, Ideas and Contests. Trough the quick result list you can navigate directly to pages – simply use you arrow-keys to go through the list and press enter to choose.

2. News and Statistics

We are working on improving the dashboard – so the jovoto news have moved next to the contest-glider. Remember that they are containing important information about contests and community-news. You can get those news via E-Mail if you want: you only have to set the accompanying notification setting in your profile and you will be notified via mail about hot news from jovoto.

3. Direct link to briefing comments

This is just a bugfix but hey, a real good one! Now you are redirected directly from the dashboard message to the right position of the comment on the briefing page.

4. Blog archive and more posts on blog main page

You are looking for older posts in our Blog? Look at the archive and you will find them. Also on the blog-main page there are now more posts presented – have fun reading!

Notification if the idea rank becomes visible:

As of now, there is a dashboard message when an idea has enough ratings to count in in the overall contest-rating and its rank becomes visible. All those of you who want to receive an e-mail for this event have to wait only a few more days …

Bilingual idea descriptions:

Many ideas descriptions are exemplary recorded in German and English –  This results in descriptions becoming very long and hard to read . We’ve built a language switcher, so that descriptions can be entered individually in each language. (Which description is displayed depends on the language you have set for the platform. Platform lLanguage switch in the footer)

We always like Proposals to improve the platform, or feedback about the new features  – so, please use the feedback feature on the platform, or simply comment here on the blog post.

1. Briefing improvement – vertical layout:

The layout in two columns did have some deficits regarding it‘s readiability – so we decided to get rid of it and go back to the vertical layout. And while we were at it we also adjusted the print view so that you can easily print out the briefing now. Put it under your pillow or pin it up the wall above your writing desk – no problem with the new print view.

2. Filter for  ideas not rated yet:

With the new filter “Not rated yet“ you can easily organize your way around voting. Just display the ideas you haven‘t rated yet – or display those you already rated and want to check on again. Rating gets much faster and easier with this new feature.

3. Online status settings:

On popular demand we added a checkbox to the user settings to activate or deactivate the showing of your online status, the pink dot that appears in your user image when you are online. You now have the choice whether you want to show your online status or not. Let‘s recall: the pink dot appears when you‘re active on the platform, it automatically disappears as soon as you log out or are inactive for more than ten minutes.

4. “Follow Contest” is back:

Well, it wasn‘t exactly gone, but the “Follow Contest“ button is placed more prominently now on the platform. By clicking the “Follow Contest“ button you make sure to get all the dashboard messages that inform you about what‘s going on in that contest – e.g. if someone submits a new idea. A great way to stay updated!

5. E-mail notifications are working again:

You want the information from your dashboard directly in your mail box? No problem, you can activate this service in your user settings under notification settings.

We‘re looking forward to hearing your feedback on this features as well as more suggestions of how to improve the platform further.

The exhibition is called “The dream of the ocean” and plays with clichees of the sea in its images. The works shown are mostly polaroids with some holga and camera obscura images completing them. The exhibition is at Gallery RS21 Berlin and has opened since saturday november the 7th. A program with a reading, a concert and more music is planned for the closing on sunday 29th november at 2 p.m.The Galery is open each Sunday 2-5pm.

Openframe wurde mit seiner Idee „Hier bin ich. Friendticker 2.0“ sowohl von der Community auf den ersten Platz gewählt, als auch von Servtag favorisiert. Auch thegoodad konnte in beiden Fällen mit dem witzigen Video punkten.

Gerade haben wir uns mit der Geschäftsführung von Servtag getroffen, um die Modalitäten abzusprechen. Die Lizenzverträge sind bereits unterschrieben und auf dem Weg zu openframe und thegoodad. Eine weitere Zusammenarbeit ist von Servtag auf jeden Fall erwünscht. Die Konzepte und Ideen werden nun in gemeinsamer Absprache verfeinert – wir sind gespannt auf das neue Design von friendticker und eine weitere Version des lustigen Videos, das man auch auf vimeo angucken kann.

Das ganze jovoto-Team freut sich sehr über die tolle Zusammenarbeit mit Servtag und an dieser Stelle möchten wir uns auch noch einmal ganz herzlich bei allen bedanken, die Ideen in diesem Contest eingereicht haben.

Hier noch ein paar Informationen über den Friendticker:
Friendticker ist eine mobile location-based Plattform mittels der man die Kommunikation mit seinen Freunden vereinfacht. Die Firma servtag betreibt den Service. Florian Resatsch, Geschäftsführer und Mitgründer von Servtag, freute sich besonders über die Zusammenarbeit mit Jovoto: „Auf Grund der sehr guten Vorschläge, haben wir uns auch für zwei Entwürfe aus dem Contest entschieden. Die Community Manager von Jovoto haben uns sehr in der Zusammenarbeit mit den Kreativen unterstützt und den Prozess exzellent moderiert. Wir würden uns daher wieder für Jovoto entscheiden.”

Wir freuen uns auch über den tollen Erfolg für die Community und damit für jovoto und die unkomplizierte Zusammenarbeit.

Employed as a project and product manager, Peter is supposed to manage not only external projects but also coordinate internal communication and workflows. He will work as a link between the community team and the developers, helping to translate the latest ideas of how to improve the jovoto-platform into reality. We are extremely happy to have him and working with him has been a pleasure since he joined us two weeks ago. Peter has a lot of experience in the field and I leave it ti him to impress you:

Hello everybody! My name’s Peter and it’s great to be with the jovoto crowd! Hopefully we’ll all get to know each other sooner or later. Here is how I got to join the jovoto-Team:
I first studied Applied Information Science in Siegen, together with Daniel by the way. After graduating I worked as a software developer for a software company, but realized pretty quickly that I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life programming. I quit my job and moved to Berlin without really knowing what I was going for. I applied at the Institute of Electronic Business and , luckily, got accepted. Whilst studying I worked as a freelance developer and consultant and continued doing that after my diploma in 2008. But being the restless person I am, I now decided that it’s time for yet another change. It’s always exciting to discover and experience new challenges and new environments and make yourself comfortable with new structures. Jovoto is a great adventure and I am so curious to see where this journey will lead us to. It is impressive to see the development and growth this platform went through in the past two years. That’s why I accepted the job offer by jovoto after having turned down similar offers before. I am happy I made this decision – and now: let it grow guys!

Since the very beginning jovoto has  from time to time engaged active community members to realize creative projects for jovoto. Actually we noticed that more and more creative work needs to be done around here, so we asked long-time community member Nina to join and support the team as a part time designer.

Nina will take special care of creative processes around jovoto and – thus the plan – find many new and exciting ways to spread jovoto’s spirit and keep the flowery braingarden growing ; )

Hello to the jovoting crowd!

Perhaps some of you know me already, since I participated in the first jovoto contest, I have been infected with the jovoto-virus and can’t stop interacting in contests and community actions. jovoto offered me the perfect place to work on creative tasks in a totally free way, not depending on time schedules, only depending on my personal workflow. And I was even luckier, that some of my ideas won great prizes ; )

Now i‘m really happy, that today, I could switch to the other side and became a member of the jovoto-team. Yeah ; ) For sure i‘ll miss my contest activities, but it‘s great to get the possibility to help building up and developing this cool platform with a great team and to push it further and further. Before i became a jovoto I studied design at the FH-Potsda and I am actually working on my diploma right now.

I have been working as a freelancer in different  categories such as photography, illustration and graphic design.

Mit nur 0,1 Punkten Abstand wurde die Idee mit dem Titel “Auf. Stufe für Stufe.” von Berkeley zum Wettbewerbsgewinner gewählt.

Gefolgt von Weber mit seiner Idee “(…) dynamisch in die Zukunft von Deutschland.”

Auf den dritten Platz wählte die Community die Idee mit dem Titel “The Only Way Is Up” von Fromfront.

Im Anschluss an den Wettbewerb ist nun die Meinung der SPD und deren Agentur A+B Face2Net gefragt. Es gilt die einzelnen Ideenbeiträge aber auch den gesamten Wettbewerbsverlauf, also auch die Kommentare und Bewertungen zu diskutieren und zu überlegen, welche Ideenbeiträge für den tatsächlichen Einsatz welche Potenziale bergen.

Darüber hinaus ist es interessant zu beobachten, dass sich seit gestern Abend viele der Diskussionen, die bereits innerhalb der Community gelaufen sind, nun öffentlich im Web, v.a. bei Twitter und in diversen Blogs wiederholen.
Diese Diskussionen, ob nun auf jovoto oder woanders, tragen sicher zur Entscheidungsfindung bei und zeigen eindeutig, welche Vorteile Crowdsourcing-Prozesse, bzw. ein kollektiver Think-Tank und der erweiterte Diskurs mit sich bringen. Es werden nicht nur spannende Insights generiert und ein breiter Möglichkeitsraum aufgezeigt, sondern der erweiterte Diskurs bildet Meinung und generiert für den Auftraggeber Relevanz und Sicherheit.

Dass die Meinung der Community nicht zwingend die erste Wahl für den Auftraggeber sein muss, ist durch die von einander getrennten Entscheidungsebenen, Community auf der einen und Auftraggeber auf der anderen Seite, klar geregelt. Bisher allerdings waren die für Auftraggeber interessantesten Ideen auch immer unter den Top-Platzierungen der Community zu finden.

Was Anfang Februar gemeinsam mit der Online-Agentur der SPD, A&B Face2Net als Contest für ein Wahlkampf-Signet gestartet wurde, entwickelte sich schnell zu einer Ideenlawine, und dass obwohl der Contest gerade erst in die heisse Phase einläuft. Wenn bereits zur Halbzeit knapp 200 Ideen in über 800 Ausführungen, mit über 1000 Kommentare und mehr als 3000 Bewertungen aufgestellt sind, spricht dies für sich und natürlich für das Thema des Contests, für Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Offen und selbstbewusst den Diskurs mit den jovoto-Mitgliedern zu suchen, ist nicht selbstverständlich. Die Wettbewerbe und deren Ausgang sind Meinungssache und beruhen auf dem Diskurs der jovoto-Gemeinschaft, deren Mitglieder völlig  frei und unabhängig agieren. Zwar gibt es ein Briefing, aber niemand schreibt den Teilnehmern vor, wie sie zu arbeiten haben oder beurteilt gar wie gut oder auch wie schlecht die eingereichten Ideen sind, außer natürlich die eigene Community als Kollektiv.

Bei jovoto liegt der Fokus auf der Idee und es geht nicht darum perfekte Artworks zu liefern, vollständige Kampagnenkonzepte zu erarbeiten oder 100% “on Briefing” zu arbeiten – es geht um ein Screening des möglichen Ideenraumes, es geht um kollektiven Austausch und vor allem geht es um Inspiration.

In zahlreichen Gresprächen mit interessierten Unternehmen haben sich häufig Fragen und Ängste gezeigt, die den Kontrollverlust im jovoto-Prinzip thematisieren. Doch gerade dieser Kontrollverlust macht die Inspiration ja so spannend.
Nicht jeder kann nachvollziehen, welche Vorteile aufrichtiges Feedback und offener Dialog hat oder welche Potenziale sich entfalten, wenn Menschen nur der eigenen Passion gerecht werden müssen und dabei einen fairen Diskurs suchen.

Was dabei entsteht, lässt sich in einem einzelnen Blogpost gar nicht darstellen, sondern nur ausschnittsweise erahnen, wenn wir hier eine erste Ideenauswahl vorstellen:

If you are on any idea page or on anyone’s user profile, there is a button “Follow this user”. If you click this button, your dashboard will be updated with all the activity this user preforms. In addition, the user will have your user image shown in his “Followers” area and he will receive a message in his dashboard informing him about your fan ship.

Followers:

In the “Followers” area users can see who is following a specific user.

This feature enables the community to grow together by liking users and establishing relations between them, also delivering some transparency by showing the connections between the users in the platform.
