This very likable project called the betacup is concerned with the way we drink coffee. Billions of un-recyclable coffee cups a year go to waste!
The betacup’s goal is to eliminate paper cup consumption through the design of a more convenient alternative to the coffee mug.
With their strictly community-driven approach, they want to not only find a better and more sustainable way of drinking coffee by asking as many smart heads as possible for solutions, but they also wish to raise awareness for the problem via a range of social media channels.
And even the prize money for the best design is crowdfunded: everybody can make small (or larger) contributions. The neat thing is that you can track the funding process via this smart widget:

Once we have the prize in place, our plan is to work with the Jovoto community to develop ideas. So we hope to be back talking about great ideas in about 2 months. Right now, we need all the help we can get to put the prize together. Thanks again for your support.

@bunterberg – thats a great idea. Going to chat with the team about how we can get that message out – right now, we are talking to small coffee shops to help with awareness and we’ll encourage that type of message for the prize funding.
