Platform update: Karma does it better!

It’s time for another platform update. Two weeks ago we introduced the karma treshhold and other great new features to you, and this week we keep it up with some more changes on the rating front.

We’ve realized that SMS authentication was not the best tool to keep ratings fair and fun – because there were a lot of bugs and because it didn’t prevent some people from trying to manipulate the rating system. Luckily we had our monitoring charmes at place to protect the platform…  But instead of putting community members rating status on false, we’d rather have them understand what’s right and what’s wrong community behaviour.

Since two weeks now we use our beloved tool “Karma” to do so. New community members have to collect 50 Karma points to have their ratings status activated. One gets Karma for fair and numerous ratings, helpful comments and good ideas. This encourages new community members to engage actively on the platform and creates an understanding for the importance of fair rating. Karma does it better!

And because we do have this great new feature, we do not need the enervating SMS authentication anymore. Yes yes, good riddance SMS authentication! Collecting 50 Karma points is a fair proof that one wants to engage – and everybody who wants to engage is welcome.

Soooo, that’s that for great news. Other improvements our developing team made are more like behind the scenes, relevant to community and product management mostly. However, we also fixed some bugs that made the platform somewhat slow and hard to navigate last week. We know it seems strange and sometimes  hard to understand why technical problems keep appearing. But hey, this is work in progress and things constantly change on the platform, hence new problems appear. But if you tell us about them in our Support Center we gonna fix the little buggers!

As for the future: we’ll still be busy with Karma. We are planning to improve the visualization of Karma to give it the appropriate glamour and attention it deserves. Moreover we’ll show the different Karma dimensions – idea Karma, rating Karma and comment Karma. You will then be able to sort the Community not only by activity, number of ideas and overall Karma, but by idea Karma, comment Karma and rating Karma.

And when all these things are done we’ll see what crazy things we can do with Karma. Who knows, who knows… Karma rules, my friends!
