Complimentary award from UNICEF Switzerland: experts confirmed what community knew already
On Thursday, 17th of November, UNICEF Switzerland hosted a very official press conference. They told the public which of the 192 ideas submitted in the UNICEF „child rights contest“ won the complimentary award, a 1.500 Euro donation to a UNICEF project made in the winner’s name we told you about here. The special feature of the complimentary award is that, additionally to the usual community voting and the jovoto prize money, a special jury made up of experts in media, communication and marketing decided upon who won the complimentary award. So all submitted ideas were examined and screened to the bones – by experts’ eyes. This was the ultimate quality test.
Therefore we were curious about two things: who is the lucky winner and what’s behind this jury of experts?
Who are they and did they go along with the community’s voting and award one of the ten community winners? Or did they have a totally different idea of what’s a fabulous campaign idea?
Well, let’s proceed step by step and reveal one secret after the other.
Here are the jury members:
- Dr. Daniel Michelis, Locum University of Anhalt; Assistant professor HSG St. Gallen
- Peter Hogenkamp, Entrepreneur and Founder of several startups, Expert usability sector
- Martin Zehnder, Senior Communication Project Manager Orange
- Jürg Aemmer, Creative Director Saatchi & Saatchi Zürich
- Alice Stümcke, Member of the Advisory Board, Scholz & Friends Group Schweiz
- Elsbeth Müller, Executive UNICEF Schweiz
Oh yes, quite a list of telling names. The members of the jury were excited about the number of exceptional ideas and attested the community a high level of proficiency. According to them especially the high ranked ideas showed an extraordinary level of quality, creativity and potential for realization.
One jury member said: “We were impressed by the quality of the contest as a whole and the broad spectrum of ideas submitted. In the end, the decision for the two winners was unambiguous. Since we were thrilled and convinced by both campaigns, we concluded to split up the complimentary prize. That the community showed a similar preference stands proof for the high quality standard of creatives on jovoto.”
Well, no wonder they couldn’t decide on one winner but had to split the complimentary award to give it to two community members. Ah, it’s hard to be spoilt for choice. And here are finally the two crowned community members :
(drum rolls)
whatipu with „Unrecht bekämpfen“
hiro42 with „Fremdwort / Foreign words“
Congratulations again to the double winners!
The jury’s decision is a clear endorsement for the community’s decision, the wisdom of the crowd worked. Both ideas were also ranked first and second from the community. Great ideas are great ideas and great ideas succeed because people realize great ideas. Just ask the jovoto community.
In conclusion everybody has reason to clink glasses
- the community because their ideas were seen and approved by an exclusive and highly qualified jury
- UNICEF because they can now choose from an enormous range of extremely good ideas
- jovoto because we once again got proof that our philosophy works
- and lust bot not least: children worldwide who will hopefully profit from more attention for their rights soon!
(ahm, just for the records: we of course do not promote kids clinking glasses…)
