Hi Brad, thanks for commenting. The differences between GreenExpress (where Green goes First) and BarcodeLogos is that GreenExpress is a social solution which gives the reusing customer a comparative and apparent advantage over paper cup users - without directly offending the paper cup user. Every Customer who waits in line while the Green customers are speeding through will be socially encouraged to participate. The same effect encourages ridership on light rail when it runs parallel to a overused highway.

Barcode Logos focuses on conflating an enabling technology with a graphic logo.

This idea has promise. Part of the appeal of coffee shops is the perception of custom-made for me. This idea serves to leverage a strong component of the value proposition to modify behaviour.

@bradhankins, thanks for the response. I agree with @shaunabe that the barcode solution is valuable over long-term incentives such as when you DIDN'T use a paper cup, etc. Maybe taking a stab at what those incentives might be would be helpful (i.e., aligning the incentives of the coffee shop and the consumer). Thanks again!

I came up with something similar but utilizing RFID. http://www.jovoto.com/contests/drink-sustainably/ideas/5147

Our approach is a definite winner for the regular customer.

Need to put in some thought on how to tackle the spontaneous customer.

    Peace

I like the idea of trading value in the system (more productivity) for value to the consumer. Wondering how reframing this challenge to one in which the coffee purveyor is attempting to stimulate change (rather than the other way around) might reveal?

@bradhankins I love the idea of promoting a change in behavior. I think it is totally necessary for this to be successful. You are on the right track.

I read that you feel that your idea has been diluted by the numerous times the idea of a barcode has been used. With over 400 entries , there was bound to be some similarities... we live in the age where we swipe or scan a code for almost everything! I truly do not think there were too many intentional duplications. I myself had never heard of Jovoto or how it worked ...and I submitted my idea without reading any of the other entries. I had no idea what I was getting into! I just clicked on a suggestion on facebook and here I am 2 months later.... totally dedicated to this movement!!!

With that said....I also have used a barcode in my submission...but I have taken it off of the cup. This allows the consumer to use the cup that suits their beverage purchase rather than having to stick wit a particular cup style. It also allows other retailers to join in the movement, rather than placing the barcode within the logo. This will take the idea of 'Drink Sustainably' further than just the SB Market and more paper cups will be less likely to reach the landfill.

Any ideas or opinions you might have on my entry would be greatly appreciated! you have my vote! Good luck my friend!!
