We drink alot of coffee at The Limelight Studio, and that got us to thinking about your redesigned cup project. It became evident that it’s not really about a better design for a container, but instead a better design for motivation. Specifically, motivation to reuse, instead of recycle.
It takes less energy to clean, than it does to convert paper into pulp, then back into paper..
...just to get the same cup, again.
In turn, we humbly present for your analysis, -the Starbucks Coffee bar code logo.
The proud owner of this branded container simply brings it to their local barista, who scans it for their coffee related preferences, reward points, or perhaps even.. Starbucks debit account info.
The owner then simply punches in their handy 4 digit pin, and is off on their caffeine enriched day... only to return again the next morning to enjoy the more efficient process and lack of wasted resources.
Thanks! -thelimelightstudio.com

Barcode Logos focuses on conflating an enabling technology with a graphic logo.

Our approach is a definite winner for the regular customer.
Need to put in some thought on how to tackle the spontaneous customer.

I read that you feel that your idea has been diluted by the numerous times the idea of a barcode has been used. With over 400 entries , there was bound to be some similarities... we live in the age where we swipe or scan a code for almost everything! I truly do not think there were too many intentional duplications. I myself had never heard of Jovoto or how it worked ...and I submitted my idea without reading any of the other entries. I had no idea what I was getting into! I just clicked on a suggestion on facebook and here I am 2 months later.... totally dedicated to this movement!!!
With that said....I also have used a barcode in my submission...but I have taken it off of the cup. This allows the consumer to use the cup that suits their beverage purchase rather than having to stick wit a particular cup style. It also allows other retailers to join in the movement, rather than placing the barcode within the logo. This will take the idea of 'Drink Sustainably' further than just the SB Market and more paper cups will be less likely to reach the landfill.
Any ideas or opinions you might have on my entry would be greatly appreciated! you have my vote! Good luck my friend!!
