Hello all, we just posted a new video that shows one way we can use the cup to help make your lawn or park a little greener. -Thanks.

Great video! Have you tested it with coffee or a wax coating?

@jblevinson. Thank you for your comment.

Yeah, we actually grabbed some biodegradable wax paper to line the cup with and it held coffee amazingly well; and with little heat transfer.

Creative approach worthy of additional exploration.

Lots of issues and comments raised so far. A great sign for any idea. I would focus on the speed of biodegration, as well as the consequence of the cup not landing in soil. There are a number of species that are fine in 99% of environments, so don't get too caught up in the invasiveness issue, although it is something to be addressed down the road. Thanks for submitting!

Am enjoying this idea. Coloring the cup, coating it, and exploring different fibers to use (could go for what is local and easiest to produce depending on where the cup is used) should be straightforward.

Two issues for you to consider:
    1) I'm looking at the cup and realizing your version might be thicker than most. Have you explored the heat insulative properties of soil/other fibers? Might you be able to market this product based on how long it could keep your coffee warm?
    2) "Caution: this drink is hot!" If you're embedding seeds in these cups, would those seeds survive extended close proximity to near-boiling liquid?

So you " want to create a world where people want to throw their cups away"? Well, we already have that, don´t we?

I doubt whether this is the right approach. People who throw away their cup, will throw away other things as well. It´s not a good idea to cultivate bad habits IMO...

Beyond that, I think Starbucks is chiefly settled in big cities - so very few customers there will have access to some garden or cultivated greenland.

Sorry to say, but you couldn´t convince me so far...

Of course having a cup that breaks down quickly is a good idea but, will it be breaking down in the landfill or somewhere else? If the cup can actually be made as suggested -- with colored coatings and a hot liquid proof lining -- then it is a good product concept. Some metrics would be nice and info on whether available technologies will make this an easy transition in the manufacturing process.

I have voted for you idea. Our retries are a step forward towards a greener planet with less waste. Please have a look at my idea and I greatly appreciate your opinion http://www.jovoto.com/contests/drink-sustainably/ideas/5237

has anyone asked how this cup would taste or mix with the taste of coffee? Doesn't peat moss smell and leave off gases? I'll will wait to rate this. I'd love a response first : )
