    a few ideas:
    1) flat cups could be sold as multi-packs with price including a pre-paid cup of coffee (bar code on cup to monitor)
    2) a flat cup is easier to clean on the go when done, e.g. with a tissue
    3) perhaps providing cleaning service or self-serve cleaning stations so flat can be cleaned quickly before use/reuse

    questions:
    what about lids?
    how can they be recycled?

Thank you for all your suggestion. I ll soon update my origami idea. I was thinking the lid can also be create together with the origami cup.

Folding can be an answer, but I would not yet drink a scalding hot beverage from your cup. Your folding design needs to be more unique. Can you create a folding pattern that allows two forms to be created depending on the need of the moment, i.e. a cup or plate. If one single sheet is creased for multiple uses more people are apt to accept this idea. Nice start.

Paper is really appealing when it comes to convenience. The trick will be the folding process, as putting that on the consumer is a tough request, but if the paper is more like a coupon, or a stamped piece of evidence of your resubmission (similar to some of the coca-cola bottle deposit ideas we've seen), this could work nicely. Then the customer is returning something, while the coffee shop is the one actually "creating" the cups. Love the up-cycle thinking. I'll wait to hear what @bunterberg's friend jay has to say. Thanks for submitting!

It's sort of like the liner idea but better. I too like a folding cup, but asking the customer to understand origami is a hard sell. If you could make it simpler perhaps? The fabric sleeve is interesting since it can be easily toted around and takes up minimum space. Maybe a hard disc at the bottom of the sleeve for stability? Just a thought.

My only worry is my kid will want to play with my origami cup.

Hey, having made these origami cups before, I'm confused as to how this would actually stand up, seeing as they don't actually have a flat base - they're essentially just like a sealed paper cone. Still not necessarily a bad thing - I tried it with folded polypropylene, and they held water well and looked cool, but the diagram is a bit misleading.

Well, this folding system isn´t new - I´ve already done it with preschool kids... I wonder how you want to make it fit into the outer cup, as it´s not rounded...
