    Thanks Jaco!

Yes, you're right, things don't move very fast in this country, we seem to be determined to allow the rest of the world, including China, to speed past us technologically. That's why I entered this contest, because it's much easier to ignore things one doesn't know about.

I have reviewed & voted for you idea. Our retries are a step forward towards a greener planet with less waste. Please have a look at my idea and I greatly appreciate your opinion http://www.jovoto.com/contests/drink-sustainably/ideas/5237

I read through your entire description. It sounds just like the Cordova Cup entry by soulmovement. Though I liked their entry better because it had the same depth as yours but they included many easy to understand charts and also a sweet design of the cup, disposal station and the infrastructure to make it all work.

Excellent research work on both projects. Good luck to both of you. You guys should collaborate (if you don't already know each other). ^_^

I'd like to think there are are a few differences between my entry and soulmovement's entry: for instance: I entered the contest on April 16th, and soulmovement entered on June 1st. If anyone copied anyone else's idea here, it certainly wasn't me.

My entry has nothing to do with a specific brand of anything--I am not trying to sell a product. I recommended that Starbucks, perhaps in cooperation with other companies, finance the establishment of bamboo plantations in Third World countries whose lands are eroding due to deforestation. And the second half of my idea is that Starbucks, perhaps in collaboration with other companies, purchase mobile pyrolysis units which would process paper waste and other dry organic waste, producing high quality fuels (bio-oil and syngas) and biochar, a very high quality fetilizer that permanently removes carbon from the atmosphere.

Aside from the cups made of bamboo and the recycling component, I fail to see how that makes my entry the same as the one from soulmovement.

I wasn't insinuating anybody was copying ideas. I just noticed you commented on their idea and naturally followed to your idea.

I think there are many similar ideas throughout this competition and I don't think it's because people are ripping each other off. Given the sheer number of applicants there is bound to be some overlap of ideas devoid of any ill intent or plagiarism.

I actually like your idea and was paying you a compliment. The fact of the matter is both you and soulmovement did not invent the idea of using bamboo or other biomass for material. And it was clear that you each had well researched entries. I was simply commenting on the execution. I think that an idea is ultimately as good as its originator can communicate it. That is all.

I truly, truly wish you only the best!

I'm sorry Yayu, I was just having a very, very bad day.

I have seen a few very, very good, original, elegant entries in this contest, and I have given them all tens. I sincerely hope that the idea that wins is a truly good and original idea, rather than the idea whose inventor has the greatest number of Facebook friends.

Hey! We finally got the commenting function to work. Thanks for the nod. We really appreciate it.

I read through your idea. I can definitely see that you are a researcher. Good stuff! incinerating bio material into compost eh? Interesting take.Sure would save time. I don't think I've seen anyone else suggest that. You're going to get a nice rating from me.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Ryan!

Actually pyrolysis is not the same as composting. Composting releases lots of CO2 while microbes digest carbohydrates. Pyrolysis does not release any CO2, and the carbon from carbohydrates is actually turned into a completely stable form, bio-char, which can permanently store carbon, keeping it out of the atmosphere.

You are right about saving time, though. Some of these mobile pyrolysis units take less than a minute to process a whole batch of waste. In contrast, some large composting facilities take up to a year to process the compost from start to finish.

    Good luck to you too!

I think this sounds really cool at the compost stage of the process, even if it's a little bit light on marketing concepts. You mention that even leaves can be pyrolsed? That could potentially work with the areca leaf that I've been looking at as well.

You've got a nice vote from me.

Yes, any dry organic material can be pyrolyzed. The mobile units were designed for use in farmers' fields, to process agricultural waste.
