Although this does not stop the use of paper coffee cups and collars it does ensure that more get recycled rather than ending up in our landfills. It is simple, cost effective, and convenient for your on-the-go customers.
How many times do you drive up to your favorite coffee shop to find that your cup holders are already overflowing with empty coffee cups from the day before? How many times have you put those empties in the trash by the gas pump because you just don't have the time to hunt down a recycling bin?
With Starbuck's new Drive-Thru window policy, if we don't ask you for your empty coffee cups you can receive a $1.00 off your next purchase.
Getting drive-thru coffee is a daily activity for most people. Why not combine that activity with the convenience of recycling empties from the day before.
Using store employees to ask for empties gives a better sense of customer service rather than just putting recycling bins on the way through the drive- thru.
Small steps can add up to big change. The more you introduce recycling into activities that people already do, the easier it is to get them to do it.
Not to mention the repeat business. Offering this service would probably force all other coffee shops to do the same in order to keep their customer base.
