"Can Starbucks find a way to recycle 4 billion cups?" Yet another case unrelated to what is happen here that seems to tilt in favor of the reuse BYOC movement - however you be the judge - check it out - http://bit.ly/du2TRa

Found yet more evidence that reuse is a viable option - check it out - http://www.starbucks.com/responsibility

I am going to try this idea at work. I hope I don't get fired ! we go thru a lot of paper cups. the biggest trouble is storing exrtra cups for "travelers" and cleaning cups after use.

I have reviewed & voted for you idea. Our retries are a step forward towards a greener planet with less waste. Please have a look at my idea and I greatly appreciate your opinion http://www.jovoto.com/contests/drink-sustainably/ideas/5237

My husband's company did the exact same thing - They handed out tumblers to be used instead of paper cups. It was a total success! Also, no one says that the free cup you are given is the ONLY cup you have. Have as many reusable cups as you want! :) I will gladly vote for this!

@KDragonBlend thanks for the vote of confidence. I commonly try to spread a little rate love to all but the front runners just because.... Yours is coming - you get "rate love".

I love the idea of giving out free tumblers. One of the things that's striking to me about this entry is that the tumblers were not given out to random *individuals*, but to a specific community. (This may be a big assumption) but I'm thinking that could be key to this idea and a reusable cup idea in a way - the "change pain" you speak of might not be so bad if everyone around you was doing it. Where as the change pain might be more difficult if you were doing it solo, you might give up your good habit too quickly.

My idea focuses on an incentive program for reusing your mugs. If you have a moment, I am looking for constructive feedback and rating. http://www.jovoto.com/contests/drink-sustainably/ideas/5361

Big assumption but a good one - in fact it is originally from you - what a Pal! Do you - I must see if you have any ideas - but more importantly what's you CBF - Community Benefit Factor - i.e. how are you benefiting the community?

A little about CBF - This is strictly a personal decision and it focuses on the measure that you receive from the community in the form of ratings, comments, favorites, chatter etc. The measure that one receives from community is the measure (ing stick) one uses to deposit back into the community the same (comments, ratings, favorites, etc). SO ;-) I will be checking you and all others I rate out. The better your CBF - this enhances and improves the quality of your rating from me. I encourage you to apply the same principle when rating others. Trust me it works. You can't beat giving....

Simple and effective idea. I also like the aspect of not only encouraging individuals but companies, churches, clubs... to bring their own cup. Hopefully other coffee suppliers join in that system, so that one day you just don´t get any paper cup, no matter where you go...

Ack - GRRRRRR! I keep forgetting about the "new" threading feature here on Jovoto!

You truly - you always have dynamic feedback! Man it's like I would die and come back to collaborate with you - We just seem to flow - now that you know....

How did I miss this... I haven't missed too much on here. I like the idea... it would most likely have to Phase in... because...what is SB going to do with all of the cups it already has stocked?...ya know... but this would def. work... I've been going through the "change pain" myself the past couple of months... Only because I don't know what coffee establishment I'm going to be near... ( we don't have as many SB's as most major cities... these people here like DD) .... and I usually have a DD stainless steel mug with me and not a SB container ( how embarrassing, right!) ... I'm sure they would frown upon that... though, if I complained enough they might, lol...especially now that I know about SB's efforts for sustainability... but (gosh I'm rambling on)

I've been harping on my friends about their coffee habits since this began... they are feeling my "change pain" as well. LOL

Group tactics , mob mentality , whatever works...get er done! No more paper cups!
