RYOC the Cup is an idea designed to methodically phases out use of the paper cups at Starbucks in favor of free generic Starbucks reusable tumbler/container. The goal is to promote reuse.

To promote uptake of RYOC the Cup, for a limited time the tumblers would be free or substantially reduced.

Paradigm Shift
RYOC the Cup is about a paradigm shift of sorts - a grassroots effort if you will, or a "movement" that makes it fashionable hip and chic to RYOC the Cup. RYOC essentially is targeted at a lifestyle change.
The Test
In the department where I currently work - the company supplied each worker (approx 100) with a free generic tumbler. The goal was to eliminate cost associated with buying paper cups - Many decided to bring their own personal containers.... After the initial "change pain" - within a month everyone was on with it.
Re-use Case
Do the math: Each time reuse occurs that means one less cup that enters the land-field, the manufacturing or and recycle machinery. Is the answer in manufactured alternatives e.g. bio-degradable/recyclable cups, whose processes inherently rely of the manufacture or and recycle engine?
Conclusion
Is the answer in reuse? The numbers seem to support it. And The real beauty of RYOC (Re-use Your Own Container) the Cup:
- Starbucks has the ability to target/test the concept as necessary: By store, zip code, region, even country.
- Small business will spin-off, e.g. custom containers, inherently Smartphone Apps will follow.
- For automakers RYOC the Cup means opportunity to offer cups to compliment cup holders.
- It's easy to implement.

A little about CBF - This is strictly a personal decision and it focuses on the measure that you receive from the community in the form of ratings, comments, favorites, chatter etc. The measure that one receives from community is the measure (ing stick) one uses to deposit back into the community the same (comments, ratings, favorites, etc). SO ;-) I will be checking you and all others I rate out. The better your CBF - this enhances and improves the quality of your rating from me. I encourage you to apply the same principle when rating others. Trust me it works. You can't beat giving....
