Half the problem with initiating an eco-friendly product is aligning the system associated with it; Several eco-friendly cups already exist on the market but none of them work very well with the existing systems by which we consume coffee; buying coffee in a disposable cup is faster and more convenient than reusable cups. With the system I am proposing, coffee drinkers buy into a membership not unlike discount cards at supermarkets, automated by RFID coffee cup holders which track the movement of reusable cups around London, making it easier to restock depleted cups. RFID sleeves can be topped up just like an oyster card, making it easier and faster to buy coffee on the go. At the end of the journey, simply remove the RFID sleeve and deposit the cup to be cleaned and used by the next user, just like buying coffee in a ceramic cup in a coffee house.

The idea is very intriguing (I too like what I can read here). A small suggestion -- If you can upload the files to another site and simply comment posting the link(s) to those files, that might be the simplest workaround, so you can save time and get input on your idea as soon as possible!
Best of luck.

How do we encourage adoption? What incentive do I have to carry this cup and bring it back?
How do we deal with customers not wanting to carry the dirty cups with them, or leaving them on their desks at work or at home (like the bad old days when we had to return videos)?

Alternatively, with the Oyster card, you could buy into the scheme at the start by paying a slightly higher cost for the first purchase, the emphasis here is upon the user being aware of this initial investment, an incentive to not lose or damage the card.
I'd prefer option one - a small deposit, as per each individual occasion the user buys coffee. Likewise, I'd like to see the nice spin off which is other members of the public collecting up abandoned or discarded coffee cups and returning them in exchange for 'coffee credit'.
