Solutions have been submitted incorporating coffee grinds or edible cups, which seem to be in the right direction. Current issues involve the water and heat resistance of these materials, sterilization/hygiene, manufacturing process for cup production, and associated costs.
By doing our own brainstorming and building upon the submissions that have already been posted, these are our observations, analysis and ideas up to this point.
We love the open forum format of Jovoto so please comment and look forward to more posts!

That said, I'd love to see more development of the actual process. I like your inspiration of wasps, but would love if you could flag existing tech / materials that we can borrow from to determine how viable this is to explore even as part of a bigger solution.
Thanks for submitting!

Our concept should be considered as part of an even larger solution. A movement to a more sustainable world, not just as a reduction of wasted coffee cups by one company. In order to change there has to be leaders who will be willing to test new ideas and challenge the ways of the past. This forum has put forth many great ideas that could solve the problems of excess waste such as; more recyclable materials, sustainable production processes, staff training programs, clever ways of making use of what is considered waste are just a few. Ultimately adopting more sustainable practice will lead to noticeable change, but it will not happen over night.

It is going to be interesting to see what kinds of materials are chosen for the biodegradable cup. Maybe those materials don't exist yet?
Great presentation! You put a lot of work into this!

In the not too distant future we will be headed into the far reaches of Space we must start designing products now for use in Space. What would NASA do? Use biodegradable or reusable containers?
I am not persuaded that the our answer is in running the manufacturing engine infinite full throttle to produce a biodegradable replacement for the existing paper cup. The time is now to start advancing toward sustainable reuse society.
This concept even has the Jury gulping down the Kool-aid - I meant... the coffee. Many of our problems here on Earth will not be solved with earthly thinking - If it is good enough for Space than no problem here on with it here on Earth.
Re-frame this and look at it from the perspective of Space. I like the collaborative twist - I am a fan of collaboration: http://bit.ly/arWMEE - Notwithstanding I am leaving this idea with ★ ★ ★ and a ✔ - The check well - is for idea owner's community activity beyond this thread or a lack thereof (CBF) - Had it not been for that this idea would have earned a solid four stars. Cheers!
