I really like the design with the no-need-for-sleeve concept but am not sold on the material. I was thinking of a very similar design for my idea, but you've nailed the design on the head!

Basically, if we changed the material, I think your cup design would go really well with my synthetic paper cup system idea: http://www.jovoto.com/contests/drink-sustainably/ideas/5212
(I've been looking to tackle the recycle/reuse issue by creating a scalable, cup return system with a material that is infinitely recyclable.)

Thank you to all for your support, input and sincerity.

A final word about why we entered the Betacup challenge:
We've aimed to propose a concept that is the least disruptive to the consumer experience (i.e. disposable) so no obligation is placed on the consumer. This may not be the path that Starbucks wants to ultimately take, but we firmly believe that the most likely path to behavioral change is by gradual increments. The Radial Fin concept is designed to become a bridge of sorts to the more idealistic approach of reuse and reward-based recycling/return programs. Actually, we hope that Starbucks will adopt a multi-pronged approach, with a disposable+return-reward+reusable triangle.

Thanks for having us along for the journey!! :)

I think your design looks really nice.
It's simple and easy as you mentioned, but practical!
I'm just wondering whether the amount of paper used to make the "fins" would be actually
    less than sleeve?
    Let me know~
    Great job!

    Hiya, madefresh.

I'll tell you something. when Ii was sifting through other concepts the other day I distinctly remembered yours. I knew this was a well done piece. Then we saw your nice comment on our page and it got us all giggly. Though... in the manliest way of course.

There are so many ideas and it's overwhelming. But whenever we see a properly researched and executed concept we get excited. I hope this competition goes to those who took it seriously and saw the big picture. With that said, good luck to you!

This is a really nice concept and as stated in your last post, its not easy to change human behavior. Additionally, people are making a choice to go disposable... Your solution circumvents those issues.
    Best of luck.

I liked the idea of using fins to radiate out heat... :) I have rated your idea please go on and check mine too at http://www.jovoto.com/contests/drink-sustainably/ideas/4774. We had used the basic material which you have used for making the whole material for the cup. Thank you

I'm personally partial to programs with reusable cups, but I understand retailers will still require disposables for those who don't have a mug.

I think your idea combined with a reusable program is the best overall solution. Your design of the lid is spot-on perfect!! Great work!

Love the concept of designing out the paper sleeves. If this radial fin thing works and uses less material it would be great!
