One primary obstacle I see to the success of this idea is the seating limitation at most Starbucks. I live in Boston, and whenever I go to a Starbucks here, the seats are almost always completely taken. Even if the seating areas are not already being utilized at their full capacity, the increased customer residence time would quickly use up the remaining seating areas. This would make it impossible for me to enjoy a mug of coffee and return it on-site.

A back of the envelope calculation is as follows: assume that 10% of all of Starbucks customers spend 10 minutes in the store enjoying coffee and 90% of the customers grab and go. This works out to an average of one minute spent in the store per customer. If the number of customers who choose their coffee to stay doubles to 20%, the average time spent in the store also doubles to 2 minutes per customer. Assuming the flow rate of customers in and out of the store remains constant, this means that the number of customers in the store at any given point in time doubles.

Most Starbucks locations are tucked away in tight spaces in heavily trafficked areas. A large expansion of the physical footprint of the store is not possible for these locations. How do you propose to overcome this challenge?

@MITMikeD: Ahhhh now you gave us finaly 1 or 2 points. Thank you! Thats what i call fair play. I wish you good luck with your submission!
By the way.. i gave you 5pt. I don't believe that your idea will change the environmental problem in any way but it is worked out and presented in a professional way...thats what i vote too.

What a pity you suffered such a downfall - you´d deserved to be on the first page imo.

No Problem Janne. I believe in the power of jovotos super-algorythm wich will smooth everything out... right jovoto?! ;-)
We went with the waves in the last weeks without the help of invited friends and without bashing anyone. We take the result as what it is ... an jovoto-experience.
We like to say thank you to everybody who commented and voted our idea in a fair way.

    Dear All,

we'll use the next 48h to check all ratings again. The rating status of community members with strategic or manipulative rating behaviour will be put on false, hence their ratings won't count anymore. We will then re-activate the tallying of the votes and present the final result.
So please, have a little more patience and enjoy the leisure time (you at least have some ;-)

    Best wishes from sunny Berlin
