The proposed solution is centered around a token with a designated value embedded at the bottom of a reusable tumbler. The token is locked and unlocked into place at the point of purchase, similar to a retail security tag. Customers pay a deposit for the tumbler and token (fully refundable). Specific UPC on the token references customer information and drink preferences, streamlining ordering.
Customer returns empty, unwashed tumbler and lid back to cafe where the tumbler is docked, scanned and the token unlocked at time of order. A clean tumbler and lid replaces the old one and it is locked with the token ready for the new order. Dirty tumblers and lids are washed locally at each retail location for use again.
