This museum’s wonderfully high ceilings offer a lot to work with. The designers made good use of the space with their forest of tables and colourfully tiled walls.

Google’s EMEA Engineering Hub in Zurich, Switzerland

It would have been difficult to compile a list of awesome workplaces without Google, the popular trendsetter in modern, innovative workplace designs. Enclosed pods for telephone calls or 1-on-1 meetings are an integral part of this open plan office concept. Check out something a little less integral — you can slide into the canteen for lunch…

Hybrid Office – Los Angeles, USA

This LA creative agency received a minimalistic and yet intricate design from Edward Ogosta Architecture. Isn’t it the perfect blank canvas backdrop for getting creative? We love the dual-use of bookshelves and filing space with the arena for large staff meetings or entertainment.

Odnoklassniki / Mail.Ru Group – Saint Petersburg, Russia

This office complex is divided into two zones – the work zone and the communication zone. We would certainly hang out in the communication zone which includes a recreation space, the conference hall, meeting rooms and a kitchen featuring this bright and colourful canteen:

PONS and HOUT – Paris, France

Clever layering turns this 19th-century industrial hall into a modern, playful, and practical work environment. “Each individual workplace is incised into the wooden upper surface and covered by a “telephone’-dome in Plexiglas. The four lateral surfaces contain archives, cloakrooms and the kitchen. Completely embedded in the body are the meeting room, the recreational room and the restrooms.” – christian pottgiesser architecturespossibles

This office presents a nice twist on the phrase “working in the field”. With no shortage of daylight and nature, staff at this office can be very in tune with the season.

Vidyalankar Institute of Technology – Mumbai, India

Here a different version of “campus” architecture — a university! This space features a rather remarkable mix of styles and plays on the idea of having the outdoors inside. One interactive feature pictured is a life-size chess board where people act as the chess pieces – talk about being a pawn in someone else’s game!

WorkPods @ Open Systems – Zurich, Switzerland

Here, they took the idea of the standard office cubicles and ran with it – the result – these rather stunning individual “WorkPods”.  Constructed from aluminium and glass (half coated in black enamel), the pods contrast well with the surrounding space that has been left in largely in its raw state – with the key addition of the murals by Spanish artist Fernando Elvira that decorate the walls.

Last but not least, we’re partial to this interesting mixture of historical features and modern touches: “Set within a beautiful heritage building rich in Sydney history, futurespace worked closely with the heritage consultant to create an interior sympathetic to the historic architecture, referencing key elements included exposing original brick work, beams, archways and ceiling details.” – futurespace
