At jovoto we believe collaboration will make you a better creative. So much so, we’ve rewritten the basic equation of 1 + 1. The answer isn’t just 2, but 3! We have even pioneered a special award for creatives who collaborate.
It’s not that we can’t do math, but the fact is: the old equation assumes that by collaborating you only end up with the outcome you would have gotten simply by adding the same thing together twice. However, we think that when you team up the outcome is often far greater than than the result you would have had working individually and sticking to what you know. That’s why we think 1 + 1 = 3. So let’s look at some of the benefits of collaboration on jovoto:
“Everyone you will ever meet, knows something you don’t.”
— Bill Nye
- Learning from one another
At the heart of collaboration is not only working together, but also learning from one another. It’s an opportunity to come in contact with new skills, habits and experiences to extend your personal practice. Support each other to grow simultaneously and push the limits of your work.
“Collaboration divides the task and multiplies the success.”
(I guess we’re not the only ones who have noticed the relationship between mathematics and collaboration. )
- Focus & Efficiency
Collaboration also means you don’t have to do it alone. You can work with people with skills that vary greatly from yours which gives you the opportunity to focus on what you’re best at. This leads to more efficiency and better focus. Plus you don’t have to do all by yourself!
- Reflection and Feedback
When you are working with someone else there is a certain incentive that encourages you to present your work well. When you show your work to the other person or your team, it also allows you to reflect on what you’ve done. Through discussing your ideas, it benefits the project you’re working on. It helps you understand the problem and gives perspective on your own ideas and solutions.
- Competition vs. Collaboration
“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.”
– Henry Ford
Rather than working against your peers, work with them. Be open for new input and influences to inspire and improve your work and yourself. The best way to develop is to work with people who are better than yourself- Why compete against someone when you can learn from them? It’s arguably more rewarding when you make it to the finish line together!
There are plenty of things we can tell you about collaborating, and it being a rewarding experience, but the truth is you have to try it for yourself to truly know, 1 + 1 = 3.
