Justin Raymond Merino here! I’ve just joined the Community Team at jovoto as Creative Guide. By way of Los Angeles, Toronto, New York and Tel Aviv, Berlin has been home for the last 3 years and I’ve notched 12 years abroad as a “citizen of the world.”
During my relatively brief time in Berlin I founded kulturspace, a brand & design consultancy. We have collaborated with clients such as City of Berlin, Porsche Design, Hahnemühle and AOK based on a strong philosophy of collaboration and a belief that enriching our world with artistic, cultural and innovative visions can be done collectively, free from the limitations of a traditional brick and mortar operation. This is why I am so passionate about the philosophy behind jovoto: “changing the future of work.”
I was introduced to jovoto by kulturspace art director, Lisi Badia. kulturspace was exploring platforms where we could showcase our talents, get access to notable clients and naturally jovoto was mentioned during our meeting. My team and I have since submitted 6 projects, SoFood and LifeWater have been our top ranked projects.
For over the past fifteen years my international experience in management, design and cultural environments have taught me the invaluable skills needed to bring together the talents of creative professionals. It is this experience I’m eager to bring to the jovoto community.
A few positions I’ve held include both as a consultant and employee:
- Project Manager, Warner Bros. Studios
- Community Manager, Airbnb
- Artist Relations Director, Artist Pension Trust
- Facilities Coordinator, Los Angeles Fire Department
Just as diverse is my not so traditional education! I have a degree in Design & Visual Communications, Business Management, Film & Cinema and Project Management. Trust me school is not “my thing” but I’m a firm believer in adding skills to by ninja belt. Likewise I have been involved in the arts for the past 6 years and studied Exhibition Design and Art Teaching Methods for Children.
But who am I really:
- Son, grandson and great grandson of three living amazing women (mum is 55, gramz is 76 and great gramz is 96)
- Wayyyy back when, I was a hair stylist and did hair for Alanis Morissette, Mila Kunis, Maya Rudolph, Kate Burton to name a few…
- Going further back to 1992, I did the sign language for Michael Jackson’s Dangerous Tour.
Current projects that I’m working on are the Berlin Student Film Festival, publishing a book of all 170+ UBahn stations and running my nonprofit The kulturspace Foundation. These days I travel between Berlin, Tel Aviv and my native Los Angeles working with creative individuals and organisations to bring ideas to life. If I you can’t find me at my desk, on Skype, at a meetup or pitching a new idea I’m usually rummaging through a flea market, driving my cat crazy or listening to CD’s & LP’s.
Creatives, I’m so very much looking forward to sharing my experiences with you, supporting & fostering your own creative journey and to see that each of you can realize the potential of jovoto projects.
