Kay 0.2 earthbag hurricane and seismic resistant shelter


Kay is the Haitian Kreyol word for house;  Kay 0.2 is an earthbag structure that is shaped to resist high winds and earthquakes. Since the Haiti Eq, many remain homeless and stuck in makeshift shelters of tarps vulnerable to high winds and rain. The Kay0.2 uses standard  polythene #50 bags fllled with compacted earth. Earthbag construction is a proven technique the provides strong walls. This model uses corrugated sheets on sloped top and a re anchored with rebar. The cost per bag ranges from 0.10 to 0.30usd. With rebar and corrugated sheets and rain barrels the cost would be approx. 150-200usd.
