Scara Brae
Scara Brae is one of the oldest communities in the world & incredibly well preserved. I don't put it in as an "idea" per se' but more as a concept to consider. This community flourished 5000 years ago living in communal buildings buried in the ground.

Scara Brae was a community of hallways connecting sleeping, eating, storage facilities. Built from stacked flat rocks common to the Orkney Islands & covered in sand & grasses it was on the edge of the ocean with an abundance of fresh food.

The sand & grasses camouflaged the community from the eyes of the nomadic raiders from the Netherlands.

For 5000 years old it is remarkably well preserved.
