Solution

The football is still the centrepiece of this dynamic looking logo, after all that's what figuratively speaking brings the Europe together during the event. However, the basic shape of the logo looks like the heart which is open at the bottom, meaning that this logo is not about winning nor is it about Germany only, it's about sharing the love of football and welcoming everyone who is enjoying the happy moments that it brings. There is a subtle symbol of Germany in the form of the flag, which points out the fact that Germany is hosting the event.

Please describe the creative approach you took to your design

I think this logo is the creative answer to the requirements mentioned in the brief. The message is about the football, love and sharing the excitement, and not about national symbols or winning. That is secondary.

Please explain how you incorporated the messages, values and mandatory elements outlined above into your design

Like I said, I haven't used national symbols or the trophy which symbolizes winning. I have used the basic heart shape and incorporated it creatively into a composition that speaks to the football fans community.

Why should your design become the logo for the bidding phase?

Because everyone can easily see the message: this logo is about the football bringing people together. Also, because it follows some basic principles of a good logo design: it's simple, clear, scalable, works in one color, etc.
