Meeting the above criteria I chose the shape of goals as a theme - abstracted, straight and fluent. The idea is inspired by successful logo designs - reduced, unique, functional, timeless. The logo shape is simple and clear, but it allows miscellaneous interpretations like: Growing process, different perspectives, technical possibilities, experience, network, open architecture, futuristic stadium, glowing, spotlights, transparency, crown, blossom, jewel, freedom, positive thinking, happiness. ALL THAT COUNTS ARE GOALS. For the teams in the tournament and the football fans as well.
Please describe the creative approach you took to your design
The design is affected by the german art work in architecture, design, typography and technology of the past, the present and the future as well. My aim was to design a simple unique logo for the target group of european football community and the german public too, without any connection to existing football motives and logos of the past or present known to me. Also I wanted to create a logo that is reduced to the significant symbols people connect with football.
Please explain how you incorporated the messages, values and mandatory elements outlined above into your design
The EURO tournament ist one of the biggest and most popular event in sports. So I gave the new logo a grand and adequate look too. Today football fans follow the game from different views. The form of abstracted goals in the logo design shows us the unlimited possibilities how to connect into the tournament live and directly, or with fast growing media, for example in digital reviews where you can choose different camera perspectives today. Or maybe on virtual reality in the future?
Why should your design become the logo for the bidding phase?
I designed a new branding for the target group of the german and european football community. Inspired by successful logo designs - unique, functional, easy to explain, easy to remember, easy to use, timeless. I took the shape of goals as a theme, abstracted, straight and flowing. The „golden goals“ in the logo form a new architecture with open gates welcoming players and fans. The logo represents Germany as an eligible architect and friendly, cosmopolitan host of the EURO 2024.
