Solution

The humble football boot is an obvious but not overworn symbol of the beautiful game.

Stereotype or not, one of the hallmarks of German culture is efficiency. I carried this through in my design with a clean, geometrically formed football boot. Even without colour, this logo looks intrinsically German.

Multiple boots are used to highlight Community and the fact that this is a team game.

The triad of boots, displayed in the three colours of the German national flag form an unbroken shape. A perfect triangle – a symbol of strength and balance – is housed in the centre, and makes the value of Unity immediately visible.

The circle in the centre, unmistakably a football, is the cherry on the top.

Please describe the creative approach you took to your design

I wanted to pick an element to show football that wasn't trite. The boot does that for me. From there, the direction of the logo became quite obvious. I'd use multiple boots to give a sense of community; multiple players enjoying the game. I was attracted to this brief by the fact that the candidate host nation is Germany. My clean and geometric style seemed a perfect match for German precision; the form the boots should take was evident.

Please explain how you incorporated the messages, values and mandatory elements outlined above into your design

Community is shown by the three football boots of equal size and significance interlocking. Passion is shown through how beautifully crafted the mark is; every angle and curve is precise and deliberate. Football is shown through the boot and the ball at the very centre. Germany is displayed through the three colours of the German flag and the mark's precision and cleanness.

Why should your design become the logo for the bidding phase?

I believe that I have created a timeless logo that immediately speaks football and unity. Although the logo may only be used for a temporary period, it will be one that is remembered. It's beautifully simple but tremendously powerful.
