I must admit that I'm not very involved in football, but I don't see it as a weakness for this project - I see it as a opportunity because I concentrate on more general things and don't get lost in some specific details about football. That's how I started to work on my design.
So from the beginning I knew that I somehow want to integrate a football because after all that's what it's all about, isn't it? Besides, Germany is known to be a "football nation". And is there a more suitable location than the "O" of the word "EURO"? The second element I wanted to incorporate was the joy that you're surrounded during such events as the European Championship. So I figured out how to transform the "U" into a joyful and cheering element: by putting a circle within the "U" it looks like a person who's raising his/her arms like in a crowd or an audience when your favorite team scores. In order to create a little more tension within the design I decided to set up the 24 in a rather unusual way: with a ' in front of the 24 and half the size of the regular EURO writing. Finally I wanted to transmit unity, community and diversity because of the different nations that are living in Europe and Germany itself. Honestly this was the most difficult part for me. I avoided to use another symbol or element like the football, so I decided to transform the writing again and connected all the letters (unity/community). The different color layers represent the diversity.
