Simply football
I just focussed on important elements: cheering/joy, football, EURO and Germany.

Solution

I must admit that I'm not very involved in football, but I don't see it as a weakness for this project - I see it as a opportunity because I concentrate on more general things and don't get lost in some specific details about football. That's how I started to work on my design.

So from the beginning I knew that I somehow want to integrate a football because after all that's what it's all about, isn't it? Besides, Germany is known to be a "football nation". And is there a more suitable location than the "O" of the word "EURO"? The second element I wanted to incorporate was the joy that you're surrounded during such events as the European Championship. So I figured out how to transform the "U" into a joyful and cheering element: by putting a circle within the "U" it looks like a person who's raising his/her arms like in a crowd or an audience when your favorite team scores. In order to create a little more tension within the design I decided to set up the 24 in a rather unusual way: with a ' in front of the 24 and half the size of the regular EURO writing. Finally I wanted to transmit unity, community and diversity because of the different nations that are living in Europe and Germany itself. Honestly this was the most difficult part for me. I avoided to use another symbol or element like the football, so I decided to transform the writing again and connected all the letters (unity/community). The different color layers represent the diversity.

Please describe the creative approach you took to your design

I tried to be very simple within my design by only focussing on what is important in my opinion: cheering/joy, football and the actual term EURO. I didn't want to use german related elements (e.g. Brandenburg Gate because it could have been mistaken for a bid logo for the city of Berlin), except for the colors. So I asked myself "How can I transport the required values/elements trough the writing?" The result was using elements of the letters as parts of the symbols I wanted to integrate.

Please explain how you incorporated the messages, values and mandatory elements outlined above into your design

See "PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR IDEA IN MORE DETAIL" above.

Why should your design become the logo for the bidding phase?

I thinks my design succeds in combining simplicity (a writing of the word EURO) with new perspectives (a cheering person, the football). Besides, it is another way of approaching the topic of the European Championship, just by focussing on the actual term "EURO".

HAVE YOU READ THE" GUIDELINES, REGULATIONS & COMMENTS" SECTION IN THE BRIEF AND IS THIS YOUR ORIGINAL WORK?

Yes, I did read it and this is my original work except for the writing "Germany".

IF IT IS NOT YOUR ORIGINAL WORK, PLEASE LINK ALL STOCK, FONTS AND CREATIVE COMMONS MATERIAL HERE:

The writing "Germany" was written in Code (see: http://www.dafont.com/de/code.font?l[]=10&l[]=1&text=GERMANY)
