This is a dynamic logo. The smiley is able to show various emotions without losing its relation to football and especially to UEFA Euro by making the basic structure of the EURO Cup a key piece of my work. The arches of the cup look like a heart - the symbol of love, passion and life. The circles have different sizes and colours to show the variety of participants. The circles are also dynamic and can move in different ways into the logo for ex. in a TV intro. It is also possible to integrate a sponsors logos in one of the circles. The black circle looks like a football and stands for the sport itself and of course for fair play. The largest circles build a triplet including the yellow circle (the EUROmoji smiley), the black and white football circle and the red circle, which has no particular relation to an object, but it stands for infinity and represents the strong meaning of the colour "red", symbolizing passion and love, supporting the heart above the red circle. Together they are the UEFA bid "triplet" or "trio", combining the messages and values mentioned in the competition briefing on jovoto. In Germany, three is a lucky number, as we like to say: "Alle guten Dinge sind drei." The football contains another important German football proverb saying "the circle has to fit into the corner", relating to the football and the edgy goal. Here, the football does not fit into the corner, but there are at least contrasty and edgy elements: the polygons. Each circle in the logo can represent a state or host city of the event. There is no maximum number of circles, so the number of circles showed here is just a random example and can be changed easily to a number you like (except of the trinity).
Please describe the creative approach you took to your design
I tried to include the colours of Germany's national flag and a friendly shade of orange to support feelings of happiness, sun in summer and the meaning of a "warm" welcome. The logo must not contain the colors of Germany, it can be published as well in the colours of two participating teams in a match for ex. or even in neutral football colours like green (for the grass). The smiley can interact with fans (social media activities) or during the game in the event of a goal.
Please explain how you incorporated the messages, values and mandatory elements outlined above into your design
Thinking of "Sommermärchen" ten years ago when Germany showed the world great hospitality, unity and endless passion for football, I had to make sure to include those principles to the EURO bid 2024, in addition to the values and messages mentioned in the briefing here on jovoto.
Why should your design become the logo for the bidding phase?
... because it would be the first interactive and dynamic logo in the history of UEFA EURO championship bids, bringing the game closer to fans and teams. EUROmoji is a state of the art logo, combining values, messages and football elements related to the bid host. Germany is not only known as a great football country, but also as a nation with a long tradition of innovation and creativity. I want to show these strengths of my homecountry in my innovative work.
HAVE YOU READ THE" GUIDELINES, REGULATIONS & COMMENTS" SECTION IN THE BRIEF AND IS THIS YOUR ORIGINAL WORK?
Yes. My logo is an Adobe Illustrator vector file created in August 2017.
