e-book collectable for any book trade situation, and customers can buy as a gift or to keep as a physical reminder of the digital book title. Easily packed and shipped.
What is the core principle of your idea?
A quality keepsake that you can buy and display at home as representation of your e-book.
At a trade show they can be flat packed and produced at any size including a large version to use as a space divider or a backdrop to a seating area. The images and text are printed directly on to the material so that the texture and color show through. This technique is used with commercial digital print presses that include a white ink as a substrate for the color overlay.
Can your idea be applied to different formats (in a bookstore, at a trade fair, at a conference)?
Yes. It can be produced in various metals, card, perspex, wood or compressed paper. I think the images could work very well on bare plywood. My research suggests that this type of unit would work very well at a book signing where the author can sign the title!
Would it be possible to turn your idea into a reality, or at least create a prototype of it, at short notice, i.e. by the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2014?
Yes - very quickly.
What do you estimate the costs for the prototype or the final implementation of your idea to be?
Depending on the size and material, a prototype could be produced for probably less than 300 Euros (laser cut metal and digital print or applied vinyl). In production, depending on the material and book title, an aluminium version could cost around 8 Euros to manufacture and could have a sell price of 20 Euros for a typical "paperback" novel (boxed with the book download key).
