An unconventional reading/writing device.

With Theuth; it's possible to raise questions for the essence of writing; itself. Both with digits and ink. With Theuth a new space of reading/writing is celebrated; different in dimensions, function, format, organization of contents, orientated to a future where computing access will be "...everywhere: in the walls, on wrists, and in "scrap computers" (like scrap paper) lying about to be grabbed as needed".

What is the core principle of your idea?

In Theuth, the traditional organization of data will be a choice among others. The proposed installation; Theuth and Theuth advance, opens a new space which challenges our conception of how data will be presented in the coming expansion of digitalization to the artifacts of our everyday life; tables, walls, ceilings, floors etc. With Theuth is possible the navigation to the textual world to be a poetical, emotional, bodily active and multi-sensual experience.

Can your idea be applied to different formats (in a bookstore, at a trade fair, at a conference)?

Theuth design incorporates very few components that may found locally. In a traditional bookstore any table available may be cleared and Theuth installed on it in less than an hour. Features of Theuth advance may be incorporated to enrich the experience. The scale may varies from A3 format (info stand) to A0 to cover a whole wall surface if we referring to an event as the trade fair. At a conference, Theuth on a wall or as a table may replace boring PowerPoint projections.

Would it be possible to turn your idea into a reality, or at least create a prototype of it, at short notice, i.e. by the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2014?

Yes is quit feasible and it depends much to the choice of digital contents to be presented and the available budget. It is not only the device but also the design of the model of interaction applied on it. Throughout the presentation what I try to do is not to solve one case; the bookshop case, the trade fair case, but to set the principles.

What do you estimate the costs for the prototype or the final implementation of your idea to be?

Theuth is an unconventional reading/writing device which may costs less than 300€ but does pretty much the same job with devices such as the Microsoft Surface Table; priced at 10000€, in an even more poetical, emotional, bodily active and multi-sensual way... and evolutionary can be placed anywhere in the history of writing and literature...containing features from all its ancestors.
