The concept is simple: Creating a community along with a visual brand which stands for and contains the world of eBooks with all related services and that offers a new way of experiencing eBook both, physically and digitally. All members of the community, including books-shops, publisher, author, book- lovers, -readers and -buyers, can access this network and individually use it to create their own world of eBooks - either to present them, find them, be inspired by them, sell them or buy them.
What is the core principle of your idea?
The digital heart of this network is a app-based platform offering a service-oriented, curated, personalized and interconnected space which can be used to present, search, purchase, collect and read eBooks. The physical centre piece of the concept is an ink tank terminal, that works as a real-world access point to the ink tank community. It offers the possibility to experience the world of eBooks in tactile and intuitive dimensions and to benefit from services which are only provided locally.
Can your idea be applied to different formats (in a bookstore, at a trade fair, at a conference)?
The concept can be applied to different formats and the digital ink tank can be accessed via all sorts of digital devices from pretty much anywhere. The ink tank terminals are also applicable to different settings, they can be transported, offer a great extent of content within small physical space and they can be intuitively used by anyone without further assistance. The information comprising buttons can be applied at any terminal for presentation purposes and allow a flexible usage.
Would it be possible to turn your idea into a reality, or at least create a prototype of it, at short notice, i.e. by the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2014?
Yes, probably it would be possible since the necessitated technical requirements already exist (http://www.interactive-scape.com/) and could be adapted to the special needs of this project. Developing at least a first version of a software program for the ink tank community would be on short notice but possible.
What do you estimate the costs for the prototype or the final implementation of your idea to be?
The exact costs of the terminals and the software are hard to estimate. However, since the network does not only provide a new experience with regard to eBooks but also offers the possibility to increase sales and benefit from online purchases, the investment will pay off over time.
