Solution

What is an artificial garden? Every garden is an artificial amalgamation of curated plants. Artificial plants lack beauty, unless they so closely resembel real that they are indistinguishable. So I focused on other requirements - the on-trend target demographic, the bold scale, the juxtaposition of manipulated photographs and traditional media. I used photos of roses I took in Paris, my own art, and edged it all with a stripe created from photos of a metal bar, which edges the print.

Why does your design stand out?

The fashion-forward pattern is bold and eye-catching in color and scale. It features an intriguing melding of media. It has the beauty of a traditional floral and the edginess of a Pollack-inspired avante-garde abstract.

Which kind of brands do you imagine using your design?

This is a high-end, feirce-feminine look. Printed on quality fabric it would be natural on many runways - it could be a Chanel scarf, a Trina Turk tunic, a Cynthia Rowley dress. Printed on less expensive fabric, it would be perfect on a Desigual summer dress or a Topshop jumpsuit.
