We really don't need a more "sustainable" throw-away cup. We need a more user-friendly travel cup.
I've always secretly thought that the main reason we hate permanent cups is that even once your delicious drink is gone, you're stuck carrying around a rather large cup all day. The twist is a cup which will collapse down to a smaller size. It can then be pocketed or put into a purse.
