The standard distance between countertop and cabinet bottom is 18". Even with my normal coffee maker, I have to pull the machine forward to pour water in the tank which is very annoying. For this reason, the 'water in' location is facing forward and slightly lowered for a very easy pour. Likewise, there is enough clearance for the user to twist off the roasting cap and use the scoop to easily pour in the raw beans.
