Freelance Nation - Social change in the 21st century
Documentary film focusing on the 21st century shift in the way humans work together

The documentary will focus on the clear shift of the desires of the human population to change the way they work, play and interact with one another on a global scale. Ideas focusing on the effect of social media; Facebook, Twitter, linkedIn in our daily life decisions about where we want to be and more importantly how we want to get there. Special attention will be given to the concept of freelance mixture of work & play and the creation of an ever larger decentralized work force.

In summary, what is your “Made on Coboat” project idea (max. 3 sentences)?

A documentary highlighting the radical shift in the balance of work and play of the younger generation. From the 9-5 cubical farm work lives of the 1900's to a freelance 21st century workforce that chooses more and more commonly not to separate work and play, and instead searches for ways to accomplish the two opposing ideas simultaneously. The goal will be to capture the high's and lows of what it means to be a self employed adventurer in the modern age.

How much of your project can you realistically achieve in 100 days if you will get the chance to stay on the Coboat?

Filming and editing will be completed on the ship. Some additional editing and voiceover work may be completed afterward. I am aiming for 90% completion of the project at the end of the trip!

Will you complete this project on your own, or will you be working with a together with a team?

I may enlist the help of a voice over specialist after the editing of the film is completed.

Why should your project be chosen?

My project is a sort of ironic duality. I will be doing the very thing I am making a documentary about. Dropping the day to day classical work life in the hopes of finding something more. A better way to live. A better way to balance work and play to make the most of the short time we have, and to hopefully inform and inspire others who are desperately searching for more than the same old faces, the same four walls, five days a week.

What does this project mean to you?

This would be a once in a lifetime experience for me. A wish to break out of the monotonous work a day life that myself and so many others feel forced into just to make ends meet. An honest trial by fire attempt to ditch the office, the bills, the material objects that rule the lives of so many, and focus instead on pure experience, the creation of memories and the sharing of ideas. A chance to discover an ever growing but still minority approach to life.

Why do you want to do this project?

I think this project proposes some very important questions that myself and I think many other would love to see explored. Why do so many people nowadays choose to abandon the classical work life in search of something more? What are the effects of social media on the choices we make in our everyday life? What drives so many more adventurers to explore now then ever before? And most importantly, how can such a life be accomplished!
