“Peak bagging” is an activity in which thousands of mountaineers engage in climbing the summits of a collection of peaks, e.g. all 4000ers in Europe or the “7 Summits”. Up to date no person has ever scaled all highpoints of the Caribbean, not because of technical difficulties but rather due to the vast geographical and logistical obstacles. I would like to change that by creating the ultimate sailing cruise to every single Caribbean country where clients can book a section or the full trip.
Made on Coboat
In summary, what is your “Made on Coboat” project idea (max. 3 sentences)?
The idea is to work out a tangible business plan on how to climb all 29 highest peaks of the Caribbean in the most cost and time efficient way. On the one hand I will research and design the climbs, sailing route and schedule, and on the other hand need to create an adventure tour company that provides all necessary logistics including website, booking system, sailing boat and support crew.
How much of your project can you realistically achieve in 100 days if you will get the chance to stay on the Coboat?
The goal is to draft the sailing route + schedule by analyzing climbing conditions & requirements, immigration regulations, in-country logistics, etc. for each individual island. This is where staying on a boat with an experienced skipper comes particularly handy:) Simultaneously I start setting up the company paperwork and build an online presence. I also expect a graphic business plan including costs, pricing, financing, marketing strategy, etc. ready to pitch to sponsors once I go off Coboat.
Will you complete this project on your own, or will you be working with a together with a team?
This project will be completed by my own.
Why should your project be chosen?
This project is going to make history. It is a world record! Social media interest will be through the roof not only as no person has ever scaled them ALL but also because every single peak is going to have its epic tale on their own. For everybody on board it is the adventure of a lifetime: weather, sickness, injuries, immigration issues, motivation, endurance, liveaboard experience and so many more factors that will influence success. The question is, will somebody be able to conquer them all?
What does this project mean to you?
I consider myself an ADVENTURE mountaineer because for me climbing is way more than just a prestigious wall or a high summit - it is the adventure and the journey itself. Planning the trip, exploring the routes, finding the right partner, getting to know culture, customs, languages, food, overcoming setbacks and of course tackling all the other random challenges along the way. It takes me far off beaten tracks and pushes me way out of every comfort zone - I feel alive!
Why do you want to do this project?
How often have you asked yourself: “Can I actually have a desk job AND this double life of an adventurer?” Isn’t it the dream of all of us to successfully manage to live such a balanced and thrilling life. I want to inspire! I want to live a life that is worth living every moment of existence, a life of adventure - demonstrating that you could succeed academically, score an awesome career that allows you to grow and develop your creativity, and take risks in your life doing the things you love.

The cover photo is mine, it shows my heroic ascent of the highest peak of the Maldives "Mount Villingili" (510 cm!) with supplemental oxygen! In 1.5 minutes from the Indian Ocean to the top of the lowest of all highest mountains of all countries in the world. The map was generated using Google Maps (https://maps.google.com/). Fun fact: I took Google StreetView’s imagery of “The World’s Highest Peaks” collection (https://goo.gl/JtcD2x)!
Please tell us a bit about yourself and your professional background. How do you fit into a team? What have you done before within the field of your idea?
For 7 years I backpacked in 80+ countries while climbing the top of 40, including 4 of the “7 Summits” and 2 Everest expeditions. I’ve also been running an adventure travel blog (zigeiner.de) for 9 years and co-founded an online business while studying Intern. Business Management in New Zealand & South Africa. Later I wrote a book about “Adventure Tourism in Southern Africa” and worked as PM for a Tour Operator. The past 4 years I spent consulting SMBs as an Online Marketing Specialist at Google
