I am about to finish my Master’s Degree in Educational Research; only my thesis is left. For me, this is the perfect project for my time on Coboat. This stay can combine my passion for travelling and my desire to finish my thesis at the same time. The thesis itself is an interview-based research project on how German principals evaluate teachers’ performance during observations of their classes. So far, there is no consistent appraisal system in Germany.
In summary, what is your “Made on Coboat” project idea (max. 3 sentences)?
The idea is to start writing my Master’s thesis to become a certified Educational Researcher. Instead of writing during the German winter inside uncomfortable libraries, I want to be more productive, creative and effective. I feel that this can be achieved by writing my thesis and doing the research in the livelier environment onboard.
How much of your project can you realistically achieve in 100 days if you will get the chance to stay on the Coboat?
Within 100 days, I could get at least half of my thesis done. It would depend on how much time I have left to prepare before going on board. Maybe it would even be possible to finish it, which would be an outstanding achievement. Normally it takes 6 months to write a thesis, but if I could concentrate on it every single day without having to go to work, do the dishes and fulfill all the other obligations that normally distract me from writing, I think it would be possible to completely finish it
Will you complete this project on your own, or will you be working with a together with a team?
I will write my thesis on my own.
Why should your project be chosen?
Staying on Co-Boat would give me the opportunity to finish my Master’s Degree much faster than I could ever finish it back home. I have thought a lot about taking some holidays to write my thesis, for example, in a Co-Office space in Thailand. In my opinion, it is much more productive to write surrounded by an inspiring environment. It is also a way to prevent the inevitable phases of writer’s block and the feeling of not getting enough done. It would be the best scholarship I could imagine.
What does this project mean to you?
This project means everything to me. I could finally finish my studies, have the opportunity to do more research afterwards and start a new chapter of my life. Before something new begins, something old has to end, and I am so curious to see what comes next. For me, it would be the perfect chance to write the thesis quickly and avoid writer’s depression. It is a dream of mine to write in an exciting environment and to travel at the same time, a dream I could not realize on my own.
Why do you want to do this project?
I have to write the thesis to get my Master’s Degree. After that, I wish to do more research in the field of education, because there is so much to improve and education is the most precious good that we have. I really want to finish university since I worked more than I studied in past years and disregarded my graduation. Living on Coboat would be a great opportunity to find out if it is possible as a researcher in an atypical, freelancing job to work and live as a digital nomad.

Please tell us a bit about yourself and your professional background. How do you fit into a team? What have you done before within the field of your idea?
Before I started my life as an Education Researcher, I worked for several years in a federal ministry in Berlin as an office administrator, but that was far too boring for me, so I deiced to finish my high school diploma at night school alongside my daily work. I went to Australia for a work and holiday year afterwards and started university back in Berlin. For three years now, I have been working at a Educational Institute as a student assistant.
