The main concept of this project is focusing first on the usability aspect, trying to save a lot of space in order to fill a pallet with as many bottles as possible and reduce the transport cost.
The shape of the crate is achieved by the fluent curves of the Coca-Cola bottles and the red and white color scheme speak the Coca-Cola language. Also the curved walls offers great strength and rigidity compared to a plane wall, making it durable enough to survive a heavy use.
I aimed to create an elegant and supple form by the volumetric inter-playing of crates on all four sides, thus capitalizing space.
I suggested two types of crates.
One with a capacity of 12 bottles (Coca-Cola Cloud) and a smaller one with a capacity of 6 bottles (Coca-Cola mini Cloud).
Both types of crates are fitting a parallelepiped with dimensions: L=1181mm, l=7650mm, h=1610mm.
The crates capacity is 12 liter (12 bottles of 1 liter).
The number of crates stacked on a pallet is 50, meaning a total number of 600 bottles. Each pallet has 5 levels of crates, each level having a number of 10 crates (1 level = 120 bottles).
The crate fits into a parallelepiped which measures: L=405mm, l=246mm, h= 330mm.
Coca-Cola mini Cloud
The crates capacity is 6 liter (6 bottles of 1 liter).
The number of crates stacked on a pallet is 100, meaning a total number of 600 bottles. Each pallet has 5 levels of crates, each level having a number of 20 crates (1 level = 120 bottles).
The crate fits into a parallelepiped which measures: L=225mm, l=246mm, h= 330mm.
There are 2 crate models:
- With classic handles and completely perforated, which is light and saves material.
- Completely perforated model, which is the lightest and saves the most material (the one shown in the pictures).
The lateral perforations suggest Coca-Cola bubbles. Those at the top, the larger ones, highlighted by the Coca-Cola logo are also used for picking and handling the crate.
The crates are made of bioplastic, a sustainable, lightweight, durable, washable and cheap material which absorbs shocks. Bioplastics are a form of plastics derived from renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable fats and oils, corn starch, pea starch, potato starch, meaning from vegetable raw materials.
Bioplastics play an important role in the evolution of modern science and civilization and it has an unbeatable benefits as compared to classical synthetic plastic materials.
Suggested colors are:
- Completely white with red Coca-Cola logo.
- White with red stripe at the bottom and red Coca-Cola logo.
- White with red stripe at the bottom, red interior and red Coca-Cola logo.
- Completely red with white Coca-Cola logo.
The main function of the crate is to carry the bottles from store to home and back to the store. So multifunction is not a mandatory. But you can use it besides beverage storage, also as a basket for rolls of paper, books, toys, fruits, laundry. You can use it as a flower pot or like a chandelier or lamp by putting a light source inside and so on. Even the children can use the crates like a kindergarten puzzle game. So there are many different ways to use it, but the main function remains the crate, because it needs to be durable enough to survive a heavy use. Thats the main reason way the crate is made only from one single material and does not have movable parts that can easily be detached and probably get lost very quickly.
The crates are refillable in an automatized and mechanic way.
The bottle crates are reusable (washable and refillable), stackable, stable and made from an environmentally friendly material (bioplastic) within a competitive budget.
The crates are easy to handle, carry and transport. Due to the comfortable grips, crates can be carried conveniently.
The bottle crates are stackable and can be easily transported for retailers and it fits flush without overlap or underlap, on a pallet (with the basic measurements of 120x80x165cm).
The crates shape allows to combine them on all four sides, saving a lot of space in order to fill a pallet with as many bottles as possible, in order reduce the transport cost (1 pallet = 600 bottles).
The mini Cloud (6 bottles crate) address all individual consumers (children, young people, women, older people), being very easy to handle and carry.
Coca Cola Cloud (12 bottles crate) its heavier and the main target group is represented by small business owners and the supermarkets.
