Very good idea. I was working on a mat, but you beat me to the punch. The combination of soft surface and hard surface suits the various functions.
It colud be very ineresting to use this for a picnic. I hope this is made of enough light materials to make it easy to carry. However, very well presented idea and I think this could be very useful!
Thank you! The weight and materials of the soft elements are quite similar to a camping or a yoga-mat. The hard element has flexible sides and a plastik plate in the middle. (shown on the techn. specification pics). weight should be no problem. :)
Okay, we know it's light weight :D but how can you easily carry it? It seems pretty large. Does it fold?
good point. The soft elements are rollable (~1m rolls) and I want to keep the plastik/ dinner plate in one piece (=no joints & no additional assembly required) but I will add shoulder straps on the backside or a cut for one hand to carry. the soft rolls will be lashed to the table-element. ...will be shown in the update- pics soon :)

sehr gute Idee! Toll ist, dass wenn jeder seine Matte mitbringt, eine große Fläche für alle entsteht! gerade für Grillen und chillen im Sommer eine geniale Lösung!
Vielen Dank Jazzmin! Den Community-Gedanken finde ich bei dem Konzept auch sehr spannend. Wenn (wie auf dem letzten Bild) ganz viele Picknickmatten-Sets zusammenwachsen und je nach Anforderung unterschiedliche Sitz- und Ablageflächen entstehen.
Eigentlich so einfach wie genial! Klasse Konzept. Wobei ich mir mit dem Rollen nicht so sicher bin, ob mir das gefällt. Ich denke dabei z.B. an ISO-Matten, die sich nie wieder vernünftig ausrollen lassen. ;) Da die Größe der Hartschale und der weichen Matten doch anscheinend identisch ist, wäre da nicht auch ein Stapellösung denkbar?

Ich glaube die Wiederausrollbarkeit der Matten hängt stark vom Schaumstoff ab... aber Du hast natürlich recht dass eine Stapellösung genauso denkbar (wenn nicht sogar besser) ist. Das kann ja jeder User selbst entscheiden wie er es reinpackt.. Aber ich werde die Stapellösung auch visualisieren und bin Dir sehr dankbar für Deinen guten Input !

I like the honeycomb design here a lot. And I think it would not only be suitable for dining, but maybe also to use it at the beach. But maybe think about a possibility to add a shadegiving module :) Overall, nice approach!

I really like your aproach and your final proposal. I think is practical and keeps the idea under the concept of experience the outside. The only think that makes noise to me is the way to pack them: rolling them. I think that would be a little annoying, like the tents or sleepingbags. Would it be better just to put them together one over the other, in my opinion. Still very good job. Congratulations!

Great approach here. Just one question, why hexagons?. The use of hexagonal shapes as you want to use hook and loop fasteners is going to give you problems to fit the joints as I guess you will have the hook and loop in one of the sides and the soft textile (sorry I don´t know the name in English) where you attach the hook and loop on the other so you will have overlapping problems with the adjacent pieces as some sides will have to go upside and others downside, do you know what I mean?. However that problem could be easily solved if you use square shapes then alternating let´s call them positive and negative sides they will fit perfect. Anyway, great work ; )
I think Flegido has given you a good tip for the problem of overlapping. However, it is really a great concept!
Im not sure if I know where the problem is. the soft textile (loop) is on one side and always showing upside. the plastic mesh (hook) that connects with the loop is always showing down. they are both attached to the soft borders of the mat. so overlapping is intended and a matter of a few millimeters ( no proble at all). I'm happy for every tip (that comes in time) but I just don't see the problem. Anyway ... thanks that you still like the concept.
MITOSIS picnic mat it's a brilliant idea!!! Very simple and so practical. Besides this your design is absolutely amazing. It looks so stylish and I like the clean shape. Another think I like a lot is that is very easy to carry, transport and store. Also the colors are very fresh and creates a cheerful atmosphere. Stunning work Ulrich and good luck! :) By the way, in my opinion this is a concept which definitely could sell!

Nice module structure, I guess another module shape (like circle or triangle or sqaure) could be as strong as this one, and could give more options in the idea.
Nice idea! And I think also really good for children so they can play savely on this mate, but I think it would be to big to bring it to a picknick. As for picknick, you would just carry small and not heavy things to the park.
I definitely can image that it would be brilliant for events!
