Imagine if one could be immersed in one's surroundings, to be cozily nestled in the earth so-to-speak. This is the idea behind Terra Form, to create a dining experience that brings the user closer to nature while still preserving the surrounding vista, leaving one's peripheral vision uninterrupted. Instead of an outdoor dining solution that obscures nature, this solution puts nature at the centre of attention. The recessed casement cradles the wood or composite wood batten seating providing the comfort of a park bench while being on the same plain as the natural surface and eye level with fauna and flora. Terra Form is minimal and the luxuries limited, but the experience is visceral. The intention to use a landscape that overpowers the design in these renderings is precisely the point I hope to emphasis most about my design. Terra Form takes a backseat to nature. It is intended to be a humble addition to the landscape, celebrating nature as the vocal point rather than the design. Two individuals may have an intimate dinner or as much as six adults may meet casually for an afternoon snack.
