Solution

INTRODUCTION:

        India suffered peak power shortage of close to 13,000 million units every month, as the thermal power plants struggled to maintain fuel stocks at a reasonable level. Also the hydro plants fails to work in summer session, The Power Ministry expects to generate around 9, 20,000 MUs of electricity this fiscal. Out of the total 7, 60,000 MUs would be from coal-based plants. The government might also import 5,000 MUs of electricity from Bhutan.

         In India 28.1% of people suffered in obesity problem according to the National Family Health Survey the peoples approach the gym to reduce their weight. There are several no of gyms running in India. Like ergo meter cycle, spin bike and tread mill can be used by the peoples in gym as well as in home.

         One spin cycle can generate 200 watts/hour, and this power can be used for home appliances. By using ergo meter cycle we conduct full fitness checkup within 12 minutes with the use of  polarized heart rate monitor, it does not require any external equipments to do it. Finally its gives the VO2 max level, heart rate and BMI and other physical parameters.

Fitness –

1.  To Measure the VO2 max level

2.  Day to day fitness monitoring is possible

3.  To know the current fitness status.
 
The project is verified and certified by the “INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND REHABILITATION” for power generation and fitness

ACHIEVEMENTS:

1.) " Runner in NI YANTRA 2012 "  Rs. 50,000/- conducted by National Instruments.

2.) " 2nd Place in ICTACT Student Innovator Award 2013 " conducted by ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu.

CONCLUSION:
This project is alternate method for measuring VO2 max with less expense and time. This method overcomes the difficulties found in the existing method. Hence we used only two sensors for measuring speed and heart beat. With this simple arrangement we can find the fitness level of a person.

This project can replace the TMT (Treadmill test) in measuring the VO2 max level of the person. Trying to implement it in hospitals.

In addition to the fitness test we have also included the power generation part; the generator coupled with the cycle is producing the energy while pedaling the cycle.

This method gives the simple way to produce the power from human energy and conducting the fitness with low cost and less time. This will be more beneficial to the society and Eco-friendly.
