Being the son of a farmer from Bihar, the applicant has closely observed the day-to-day activities of fellow-farmers since his childhood. The local practice of farmers to carry head loads of farm implements for daily farming activities prompts us to think that solar pump along with modules also can be conveniently transported manually to the water sources e.g. bore well, open well and pond. Therefore, it is proposed that the existing solar pumping systems can be modified to make it convenient to carry them as head loads for daily use of irrigation and bring back the same after use. The same solar module can be effectively used to charge batteries at home on non-pumping days/hours. Thus, the solar pump will play the dual role of irrigating the field and lighting the house. All these can be achieved in low cost and easy technology.
