CSP and Steam Engine for Irrigation
A Concentrated Solar Power based portable reciprocating steam engine driving a water pump.

Solution

A Parabolic dish is used to concentrate the irradiated solar power on a boiler which produces steam capable of driving a reciprocating steam engine. The steam engine is directly connected to the piston pump which pumps the water from the prescribed depth.

Novelty of the project is that the parabolic concentrator is made of silver lined polymer to curb the weight and the two stage reflector reduces the drag load due to gust wind. Individual reflector segments of the dish collector are removable from the hub and so it easy to transport the collector dish. The pump and the engine are combined in a single modular design for better portability and efficiency.
