weaving peace
Peace means communication, tolerance and respect. We are all interwoven and dependent on each other.

Solution

The idea came about by looking for suitable terms to describe what happens when people interact digitally. Links of communication, interest and knowledge are woven, as is powerfully illustrated by digital communication mapping. Turning the word 'woven' to the more proactive form 'weaving' gives the notion of a positive force, something the Stanford project hopes to be.
The central part of the peace sign seemed very apt for illustrating this idea on a visual level: it is turned sideways, with several lines converging i.e. being interweaved, leading to the lab name. This seems a simple and direct way of referring to the powerful peace symbol and at the same time adding a sense of time and action to it.
