Ashquarium consists of an ashtray in the form of a fish bowl. Inside the bowl is pure life in the form of clean water and a goldfish. The fish inside Ashquarium acts like a reflection of the person who smokes. The choice to light the cigar and ash into the object, ultimately destroying life and ruining the clean water, is entirely left up to the audience to contemplate. This will give them an idea of what happens to their own health if they continue to smoke.
What was the task for the work you show here?
The project's aim is to raise the awareness, through a designed object, of the harmful effects smoking can have.
What was your unique idea?
As there are already a lot of campaigns against smoking that don’t seem to have a real impact upon people, I wanted to create something that will affect them directly by intruding in the normal way of fulfilling the act of smoking. My main purpose was to design an ashtray that instead of empowering people to fulfill the act of smoking, would actually make them aware of the threats this desire pose on their lives.
