Flù is a unique scale that use water for weigh the ingredients thanks to the Archimede’s principle.


Flù is a reinterpretation of the digital scale, aiming at solving the problems observed during the use of the product. This scale used a physical law to weigh the ingredients, giving the project a strong innovative component: the Archimede’s principle. It states “Any object, wholly or partially immersed in a fluid, is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object.” The measurement phase, therefore, consists in the immersion of a container in which water, falling as much as the weight of the contents, reports the measurement value on the edge.

Explain how and why you created this work. Was it for a specific brief, etc.?

The brief called "Bringing old ways of living to the present day" had the purpose to reinterpret common digital object, solving their problems without using technology.

What were you trying to express?

Today we are surrounded by technology and we think that is necessary in many aspects of our life. With this project we showed that we can have a modern object without using any kind of technology or mechanism, just using physic law.

Is it 100% your original work?

It's an original work, obviously there are others scales that use the same principle.
