Surface Design for Fashion

Patterns for Surface embellishment for contemporary Princely Indian mens’ wear. Client: Rohit Kamra, Leading Mens’ wear designer in India.

Explain how and why you created this work. Was it for a specific brief, etc.?

I needed to develop contemporary surfaces for contemporary Indian Mens’ wear using traditional techniques and new materials. The brief was very clear and crisp. All the usable materials were also provided.

What were you trying to express?

Geometry As a designer, having an inclination for structural geometry I observed that if a good concept is the soul of a good design then geometry is an essential building block for it. Since the brief was very clear I only had to research the techniques, material and the ways to combine all together. I used tessellations as basic grid and repeated the materials through appropriate embroidery techniques than I simulated the 1:1 scaled surfaces with the images of the materials.

Is it 100% your original work?

Yes this is my 100% original work. The work is done for Mr. Rohit Kamra which he eventually used to develop contemporary Indian princely mens’ wear. ( )
