Solution
Nice idea! But so far I know the flat below belongs to sombody else. What about acoustic insulation?
Wooden floor is 8" (~40cms) above flat´s finished finished floor to create a platform used for clothes, luggage and roomba robots storage and queen size bed hidding.
Saludos!
Sorry...Wooden floor is 16" (~40cms) above flat´s finished finished floor...Drawings are wrong about the height of steps. I am working on it!!!
God!!!?? ...you can call me Yair....ha!!! (sorry for the bad pun)
Insulation...you are right!..that topic will be included in future updates (lounge and dinner for 12 configuration. with the ceiling design.
Gracias por tu comentario....todos los comentarios me ayudarán a concluir el diseño.
very cool
would be interesting to find a way to increase the height of the bedroom walls, particularly when guests stay over.
how do you see dinner or a lounge area working?
Molto obrigado! (hope it means "thank u very much")
Yes, I have 2 ideas to increase the height of the wall-to-floor elements to achieve more privacy. The first is with rolable blinds from the ceiling but it is so simple. The second one involves more folding of wooden decks elements.
Dinner and ounge layouts are coming soon....due to early next week...I hope. BUT i can tell you inadvance that i´ll be using the Resource Furniture® Goliath table and foldable seating stools. Not sure if the Goliath Table will seat 12 persons that is why i am considering to use 2.
Actually the main reason to have the queen size bed under the wooden floor is to have an open spce for dinner and lounge.
Thank you´...i´ll be modeling but i´ll be very close to the feedback provided.
Gracias amigo!
... the storage in the floor is a nice idea :-) ... maybe you can hide the bicycle the same way?
I found a better way to have the bicycle always visible....a street rack from Victor Stanley, Inc.
Chek it! I think it looks great!
:)
Y.
Hi Yair, very nice update ... your pictures looking very good! I like the way to minimize the long chair and hideable part in the kitchen ... Good solution to use this rack ... one little question: Maybe it's possible place the bicycle upright at the street rack? ... i thinkt about it because the bicycle is a bit near to the stairs ... good luck! :-)
Do you mean even closer to the wall (the wal that hosts the entrance door and the queen size Bed)?
Y.
Thanks gaborrieger!!
In my idea i want to have the bicycle always visible. In my opinion this is the apartment of someone who loves the bicycle world. And the Schindelhauer looks awesome...is a piece of art. So as any piece of art i want it to be visible as much as possible.
Also that can be more comfortable.
Gracias por los comentarios amigo!!
Where's the dining table and gathering space? IS that two places sofa all?
Hello Henrique,
No, that love seat is one of the two Resource Furniture® Poppi Desks. As you can see the wooden walls around the queen size bed are actually collapsible. they turn into wooden floor above the bed. Tha t way there is plenty room for the Resource Furniture® goliath table to be deployed.
I am finishing the second set of sketch-renders where the lounge configuration and the dining configuration are visible.
Stay tuned!!
Wow you really know how to keep us on our toes - I'm curious to see your updates, the floor plans look very promising!
the blue notice caught my attention, yair. looking forward to see the updates!
ja!!!....it worked as I expected...well...there are new update I´d like you to check.
Saludos,
Y.
I love your storage use, particularly with the bed! Waiting for the updates!
Gracias travelkat!!
Please come back next week to see this idea closer to its finished form.
Love it.
The double sink idea is extremely clever. It may be difficult to access the faucet from the side of the sink, however. What if you had one sink with two basins and a 'Y' shaped drainpipe and had the faucet rotate 360*? Hot/cold would be reversed on one side, but probably not the end of the world if they were clearly marked.
Like the under floor storage idea. Ceilings are only 9 feet (2.8m) high - cutting 16" (.40m) is probably not too much, but I'd be interested to see how claustrophobic the renderings feel.
There are two bikes, the Strida and the Schindelhauer - the Strida can probably fold up and go into the closet. The Schindelhauer can hang on the wall instead of going on a podium, then it's still visible and you save a bit of space!
Makes me happy to see a mechanical composter, was hoping someone would include one.
Not following how the bed functions - does the deck slide over it or does it recede into the deck or the wall? Will hold off judgement until I see the new renderings.
-Is this all done in SketchUp?
Very Good comments...this is what I am looking for from all the jovotoans!!
Gracias jblevinson!
A "Y" shaped drain pipe sound great. But the main idea is to reduce the use of plumbing furniture...at the begining I was thinking in the same idea you mention, two basins and a 360 deg. rotational faucet. But when I get intoduced to the Kohler® Karbon faucet i found that a single basin will do the job perfectly. You´ll see how it looks next week.
Yes, it is getting quite claustrophobic...specially with 4" thick. insulation everywhere. I am concern about this problem also. Do you know if that much insulation is necessary? I´ve built frozen chambers that doesn´t need that much.
you are right about the Strida. But I am planning to reserve a space for it in the vertical closets above one of the Poppi Desk-bed.
As I mentioned in a previuos post...I don´t want to hide the Schindelhauer, I just got the chance to see one very close and....man!!! it is a piece of art. Also, i think it is more practical to have it ready to take off all the time.
Yes, a Naturemill®...my message to everyone: feel free to steal this idea!
The floor (woden deck) above the bed space work as two doors. It uses a special hinge with a wooden tounge for a easier operation. This is the most elaborated detail in the project. (So far)
Yes sir! SketchUp Rules. But the 2D plan views were made on Revit® independently.
Muchas gracias por todos los comentarios. Cuentan mucho para poder completar mi idea.
Ah, se ve chido tu desmadre. Me gusta tu concepto FON Felicidades, majíster!
Mucha surte Yair!!!..:D
I can´t erase the previous images. How can i do that? Nsonne, I could use a little hand here. Thanks.
hi Yair, you can only delete pictures within 24 hours. To add an "> image" is the best solution to separate your works ...
Very nice update!
mmmm...well thanks iLines; I´ll keep using the "" separator.
By the way, Stay tunes to see all the changes. Í am trying to upload animates gifs, just like you did in your idea, to show haow all the furniture and amenities transform.
Danke Schön! ...stay tuned.
Hola Yair, he visto este comentario solo ahorita, sorry - si de veras quieres borrar algo, mándame un mensaje vale? De todas formas es mejor hacerlo como iLines te ha recomendado. Buena suerte, great work!
Nice work Yair. To erase an old image go to Edit Your Idea" -on the right side of the image there should be a trash can in a red circle - click on that and the image will go away. Hope that helps.
Thanks man!! but it didn´t work.
I like your Teepee idea. I would like to see you around with some of your comments for my idea. Right now i am worried how this idea feels...does it feels like home? innovative? typical? boring?
Let me know.
Gracias y saludos.
I really love the "touch and feel" so far. I'm kind of confused about the table in the middle, it's the goliath table right? I feel like it shouldn't be in the middle of everything. If both the queen size bed and the guest bed is up and the wall is removed, why not put the table next to the window? Then it wouldn't be right in the middle of the room and if not in use it might even serve as bed table? Apart from that, the design is really appealing. I would like to see some more green innovation though besides saving space - how can we save more energy, more water, get more sunlight (have a look at this article e.g.: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/11/brightshelf-throws-a-curve-at-lightshelf.php). Great work Yair, keep it up!
Nathalie,
I´ve just inclded a lightshel in the windows. You can take alook at it in the dec 21st update.
:)
Y.
Also to youer question of how to save more energy water...there are two devices that let you keep in contact with the water you are consuming AND how your energy consumption is going. Take a look at them in the new renders!
And tell me waht do you think about them.
I think the problem with our resources consumption is that we are not in ouch with them...by putting the water tank inside the aprtment AND make it very visible i am tryin to put the occupant of the aprtment in touch with what he/she consumes...
Same with the energy...using a visible google powermeter compatible display you how much energy you are consuming and compare it to your previous months and with neighbours or the community average.
Also...I am propposing not to connect the gadget (laptop, kindl, 31" display, etc) to grid...instead they are connected to a rechargeable powersource (xantrex 1800) that is recharged by solar panels on the roof...OR... a pedal-a-watt generator...just mount your bicyccle on it and ...work out to recarge the batteries. also a display of the batteries remaining energy is propoused.
Hope to see you around here soon!
Happy holidays Nathalie,
Yair.
Hey yair, sorry for answering late, but here I am :) I had a look at your energy saving suggestions and yes, it depends on the person who lives in the appartment, but it's a great way to "educate" its user how to save energy - so that's a great approach IMO! And yes, I was going to mention that but Graham already said it himself - it looks like it could be much cleaner, without the patterns maybe even without the colored stones/tiles in the kitchen - just doesn't seem in line with his taste. Apart from that - great update and belated Happy Holidays for you too!
Good luck for the final spurt Yair!!
Thanks Nathalie.
About the water saving device. I am just trying to help users to be familiar with how much water is used. Same with energy. Once you are familiar you start saving.
Thanks for you feedback....I don´t think I can make another update...I am kind of busy at work. But I really loved to partipate in this kind of contest...Hope there will be more in the future.
Y.
Nsonne,
Thanks for your comment. I´m glad to hear it doesn´t feel like a boring space ;)
The lightshelves you mention sound like a great idea...For this uodate (01dec2010) I couldn´t include them but I made a preliminary solar radiation study and if tis apartment is in the 3rd or upper storeys these shelves in combination witha nice ceiling design will work pretty well for around 4hrs just before sunset...not sure about the morning in the kitchen and bathroom side.
I´ll include this ones for sure. Thanks.
Check the new renders....
Saludos,
Y.
Hello lucrazia,
Yes, I´ve beenthinking about to eliminate s1 or two texture from the project "pallette"; i am focused right now in other topics like water usage and energy management.
Still I appreciatte you are sharing your insights.
Which texture (s) do you think should be eliminated or replaced?
Y.
hi yair,
great update!! It is far from boring. You've found really great solution - especially for the sink.
My opinion on the textures: I love the texture of the flooring in the entrance area. What if you use this also for the elevation? And I would reduce the floral prints on one or two furniture.
I'm curious to see where you hide the chairs for dining and I'm looking forward to the lounge. Keep up the good work!
iLines,
If there was just one person that i could ask for opinion about textures...that could be you. So first, "Danke Schön" so much.
Ok, that is a good suggestion maybe two tones of wood (dark birch and cedar) for the floor are too much. I´ll work on that.
Thanks about your comment about the sink. Right now I am working in some feedback from Graham to make it even more useful. And a cool design surprise about water saving.
Also, the chairs are 2 Resource Furniture® Ciak chairs, that i forgot to show on the "livin layout" but they are flatpack foldable. There is also 1 Herman Miller® Caper chair for working. BUT the seating for the reamaining 10 guests are already shown, not easy to see but trust it is there. Please, Check back on monday 13th for an update and i´ll show how they work.
I am glad to receive these comments. I am enjoying this contest!!! (and my boss is hating me for that, haha!!!)
Y.
Raising the floor is a good idea, but has its faults. It is not so safe to have only one step, especially when you're sleepy and have to go in bathroom.
Hello vanjolina,
I don´t fully understand your point. Please could you explain it a little further.
I already catch that having a chair with casters (wheels) could be a big danger; you could fall by the 2 steps. That is why i eliminated that chair from the design.
But I don´t think it is dangerous to use the 2 steps you use everyday to go to the bathroom. But maybe I am wrong. Please share some more. Thanks.
Thanks!! you are welcome!!
Stay tuned for tonights update....there is a xmas surprise!
Y.
Yair, for me there is too much happening in your design. I don't have such a reach mind to fully appreciate it! Well done though!
Thanks for your sweet Xmas wishes. Your apartment has more decoration than my whole house ; ) I only have one German Smoker (don't know if you know it - it is a little man made of wood, which smokes Christmas scents ; ))
Your benches are great. Very space saving and cool looking. Ah, they are made of the partitions. Really good.
But I think you still use too many different textures. I've seen in your xmas picture that even the ceiling is made of wood. I think that's too much. Try to start with only 2 textures for the furniture and floor + one texture for fabrics and one texture for tiles. And I suggest to tidy up a little bit.
Your floorplan is great, but at the moment it appears smaller than it is.
Good luck for you and merry Xmas from me, too ; )
Kerstin,
Thanks for your feedback and wishes. Yes, I know the German Smokers :)
Textures. yes...i know...i´ll be working on that as I prepare the final update. :)
I´m glad you liked the benches/partitions...they are inspired in the designs and ideas of one of my favourite industrial designers, Emiliano Godoy (check his work at www.pirwi.com). They are lightweight, practical and space saving.
Stay tuned for the lounge layout....due to new years eve!!
Thank you!!
Feliz Navidad!
Y.
Everyone,
What do you think? is this idea good to host Couchsurfers (www.couchsurfing.com) or Air BnB users?
Maybe Graham would like to host them also and not only friends. after all couchsurfing is about trating strangers as close friends.
Please share!
Y.
Thanks bonibom!
Your submitted ideas are so good also (and you plenty of them :) )
Saludos,
Yair.
wow really nice my friend ... build this must be hard work in so little space.
I like it warm and creative furniture, but my question is in cost can have this with many applications in wood and many types and disposition of the conference table ...
Buena pregunta mi hermano!!!
Of course...cost was not a mandatory guideline in the contest but I couldn´t help to avoid thinking about it.
My gross asumption so far is that all the woodwork in the floor, insulation, furniture and special appliances will be around 80k usd.
I´ll try to make a further resarch about the building co$t.
Good One!!!
Yair.
Hallo Yair, You asked me for a comment regarding your new kitchen.
Why don't you remove the wall between kitchen and living area. You could gain more daylight. The sinks position could be nearer to the place where it is mostly needed. The rooms effect would be bigger. Sure you find a way to hide the kitchen anyway.
The benches look like the mobile walls. I love the idea to use items in different ways. How will you prevent them from collapsing when 5 people sit down there?
Hi Baseline,
Thanks for your time and comments :)
I am waiting for the opinion of Graham about hiding the kitchen. Depending on that I could eliminate the wall or not. Its a good suggestion though.
I think the sink is positioned very close to where is needed: a)close to the bathroom for vanity and healthcare, b) close to the kitchen for water drinking and cooking, c) close to the washing and recycling area so you can rinse the cans and bottles before recycling. and d) Visible from the living and resting area so you can see hoew many water is left in the 30l tank deposit above the faucet.
The benches...ok....I will post an image tonight to show they work! Stay tuned.
Whet do you think about the energy and water saving strategies?
Thanks for stoping by.
Y.
Hello Baseline,
I just posted an animated gif of how the bench works...as you can see its own shape sets the height of the bench it transforms into.
What is your opinion?
Y.
Hello Yair. Merry Christmas. I follow your work for a few weeks now and saw the updates and improvements. Great job. But one concern. When there are sitting several people on the bench how can it bear the weight?
Hi Prodeo,
Thanks for your support.
The benches...wel...in addition to the animated gif that shows how they fold i just uploaded a minutes ago a sideview that shows how the very shape of the quilted wooden objects in the partition "biombo" are the ones that bear all the load.
This biombos cannot be folded more than 0.45m; so they make a perfect bench in horizontal position.
No special mechanism other than tipical hinges. The shape makes all the trick. Quick Simple Inexpensive and Possible (QISP) :)
Hope now is clearer.
:-)
Y.
Now.. let me ask you:
What do you think about the water saving device showed in the wash and vanity area. Do you think it can help to dramtically reduce water consumption?
Same question for the energfy management dispays...what do you think?
Iwould to receive feedback about that stuff.
Cheers,
Y.
Hey Yair. Now I get it. At the first pic, the bench would have collapsed.
On your question. I will have a look tonight.
I think you thought of everything to save energy. But the real savings of energy depends on the user (s) But I am sure we can rely on Graham and his guests.
Great job Yair.
Thanks man!!
You are right it depends of the user. My devices try help them challenge themselves to consume less and better.
thanks man....I also followed your ideas un the unicef contest...good ones!
Y.
-doors to cover shoe area -my bike is indeed pretty :) but would rather it was hidden away (less "student") or perhaps hung on a wall. it seems in the way there... -how about going with bunkbeds for guests instead of two systems (cheaper and fine) -nice effort on the kitchen (specing!) would probably always go to the ceiling if there's room in order to maximize storage. great foldout table for more space. -maybe we can get away without the espresso machine and the juicer to give a litle more space. take cabinets all the way to ceiling too. -smaller sink and then place to put drying dishes -major points for using only one sink. not too excited about the aesthetic of it though..maybe go for a white one or stainless? and could use space underneath it too? -water saver thing is fun but not for me -seems like the space when you enter the bathroom could be made smaller and therefore give you more kitchen space? perhaps put the steamroom/shower where the towel hangers area is and have the entrance be between that and the toilet? -office is great. probably don't need two long desks. what about putting the master bed there instead? and use the L couch resource furniture one so it makes a nice lounge? -is there more detail on the P benches? are they available commercially? -no need for gardening for me..love it but it won't happen. :) -figure out nicer place to store the goliath? looks funny in that corner
There's been some great thinking here. I think my general feedback would be to try to streamline and simplify it both functionally and aesthetically. The kitchen and bathroom in particular. Make them more generous and less like bits of things stuck together..make them have longer lines, less zigzags. Aesthetically, make it simpler, less patterns everywhere, more white, simple wood. Hide more things. Make it calmer feeling.
Thanks for all the hard work!
Thank you very much Graham,
This kind of feedback is what I needed to procede...I am on it!!!
ABOUT the Pangoli Biombo/benches....I am glad people like my design...they are not commercially available...but that is something than I am putting in my "to do list"...maybe resourceFurniture would be interested in helping with that.
I´ll upload the last update early in January.
Thank you for your time....and also to everyone who has posted a message!
Y.
Sorry Graham...I won´t be able to make those changes. I really want to but I have no time right now.
Loved this contest...I hope to see more like this.
Yair.
Thanks skab81,
I guess it is becoming very popular that seating system. I thought it wasn´t that good....but I think that the Crowd sees more than the individual just can´t.
Saldos :)
Y.
Gracias tio. If you have any comment o the design...please sare!!
Saludos compadre.
Y.
Yair,
Nice work and well thought out layout. Like everyone else I like the folding bench system. I think it is alright to have only one sink and faucet (since you have a foot peddle). It is well located and saves space.
Overall I like the idea.
Best Regards, Finn.
Thanks Finn,
I think that a single sink is a better idea; I[ve been trhugh this over and over again: to have the sink inside the bathroom is a way to increase the bathroom size by even 33%...why do we need so much bathroom? I also think that the sink/toilet combo is good but I wanted to propuose a very drastic change....a sink for vanity/dish rinse/recyclables rinse.
Thanks for your comments.
Saludos amigo!!
Y.
the design of space, gadgets, furniture - very very nice and useful. the choice of colors, patterns, loads of textures, doesnt do it for me. wish u made it look simpler. but it still makes me like it :D
Thanks for the comments zoranjor...yeah! i know...I am not really into white and light colors. They make nervous.
Thank you!
Y.
Gracias Elsa!!!
Ahi vamos. L'astima que no pude completar mi idea pero en verdad disfrut'e mucho participar.
By the way.....your idea rocks!!!!! of course you noticed tht because of my rating :)
Good luck!!!
Good luck to you too!
Exacto...fue por la mudanza en parte.
Si organizan otro concurso de arquitectura ahi estar'e. Y de seguro te ver'e ahi de nuevo.
Suerte!!!
There are so many useful ideas and they all suit the parameters of the contest. Any of them can ve adapted to meet Graham's needs. I enjoyed seeing your ideas.
But what is the mechanism for using the surfboards work as a backing for the movie benches? I don't see how that works.
Rroxi,
Actually that mechanism is also an idea at this moment....i got no details but since the "cinema layout" didn't succed as i expected i decided not to focus on it.
Thanks for you feedback. I really appreciate it!!
Y.
Nicely organized, especially love the kitchen. The hues are natural and warm.
Gracias DeeDoo,
I appreciate your comments on the kitchen. "Natural and warm" FINNALLY somebody got the idea of my finnishes and textures :)
Y.
Force of nature has some of the parts that are going to make some dining layout among some aspection that was good to read. I was able to have all parts that were on writemypaper4me.org review this was good to read about all formats that was possible through all details on it that was good.
